Tree damage

Caught in the act! We have noticed a lot of damage to the small trees in this belt, but rarely see fallow there. Camera set up and look who we’ve caught… confirms our suspicions.

Trouble is they show when it’s dark. Hoping the coming cold snap brings them out earlier. Odd how they are fairly nocturnal as we don’t hammer them.
Not uncommon with fallow. They can move a long way at night. Some of my ground always has plenty of slots and other sign but they just pass through at night. Only around the rut do I see them in shooting hours.

We do see them about, but hard work to shoot more than a few. Got a bunch of high seats coming as part of the woodland grant scheme which will help us target them better.

I shoot them up to the last couple of mins with my digital scope. Just take on the does, make sure you sort out a few good lines of sight.
I have a sightmark wraith on my foxing rifle but that’s a 22.250 so I’d need to swap it over the the 243 or better the 308. I really need to invest in an additional nv scope or an add on.

That is why my foxing rifle is .243 with a 95gn round, then you don't have to worry what steps out.
The days of the smaller calibre's have had there day with deer popping up every where.

Agreed. I
Might be time to move over to using the 243 for more. I run 87g vmax so headshots at under 100 would be fine at last light. We tend to head/neck everything anyway as under 150yds if we can.

I totally agree I think anything smaller than a 243 is a waste of money. A 243 is a great all rounder.

Yes, the 250 is purely a nv foxing tool. It’s an old m77 Ruger with no value and I said 4 years ago when it stops shooting straight ill, scrap it. The barrel is knackered according to the local gunsmith, but it will still put bullet on bullet at 200yds.
