Tripod and hog saddle v a set of b&q twin sticks

I recently got myself a primos gen 3 tripod and hog saddle and after shooting from this platform I can safely say I dont see any difference btwn this setup and a set of b&q twin sticks , the only benefit i can see is hands free, quads are by far a more stable platform, am I wrong in saying this, no doubt there are more expensive tripod setups out there like arca setups with more robust tripods etc or maybe primos could put in some sort of locking function to stop lateral movement when target is acquired.

I’ve just bought a pig saddle copy off fleabay and mounted it onto an old camera tripod with a tilt and pan head, it works great to support the rifle for long durations and is very quick and easy to use, however it doesn’t really offer much more by way of stability than a tripod with a yolk rest. I can however leave the tilt and pan head a little tight which definitely helps to dampen any body sway, the tripod is also very robust which also helps.
I too am thinking of a B&Q set of quads to try but can’t help thinking they would be a right faff if the target is on the move.

Originally I was using a Vanguard T62U tripod that I was given and onto that I made a support that held the rifle hands free, I also made a tilting head. It was extremely stable and easy to use but the Vanguard isn’t really a tripod, it is more a bipod with a third leg as the two rear legs swing in a single plane, this means that the vertical axis is actually leaning over away from the user which made panning problematic. It was also a PITA to carry. It did however prove much more steady than everything else I’ve tried.

I looked at a Gen3 Primos but frankly wasn’t impressed by how flimsy it felt, far too much flex and too much to go wrong.

Yeah the primos are flimsy, I can see how a better tripod with just a ballhead for panning would work better as if I'm thinking correctly could be tightened to reduce lateral movement.

l have the trigger sticks and never use them now

A tripod will always be less stable than quad sticks , quad sticks are far superior , I take the £15 set of eBay quad sticks out shooting every night and leave the waste of money tripod at home 👍

most definitely, + you can adjust the locking nut for swing movements as it just moves with one finger left/ right , far far better than trigger sticks

I agree about quads but I think a good tripod setup definitely has its place

I don’t get the problem re quads. If you are calling simply move forward slightly and tuck the butt under your armpit or take a half step back from the quad-mounted rifle and let the then tilted rifle butt come into your chest thereby resting your rifle and freeing both hands. Simples.
