Truck mounted deer hoist

morning everyone
I’m sitting at home with covid bored silly and would like to set something up on my truck(ford ranger with ifor Williams back)for doing suspended gralloch and making loading fallow in the back a little easier
Been looking at building something or buying anyone use anything similar?
Advice and pictures would be greatly appreciated

I did this one in 2019, the truck is now in Egypt.
The main 18 inch long bit is fitted with a hinge bolt at the front onto a square upright that is bolted to the bed frame, the long square tube slips into it to extend then out over the tailgate and the curved bit at the rear is the support to hold it stable while in use. The 18 incher just lays down on the rubber at the wheelarch when not being used.

I've got the Donnington one - great bit of kit. Lifted a 100kg stag (larder weight) into the back of my pick up (with canopy) without breaking a sweat. Since I bought it I've probably got the space and facilities to make my own but no doubt in the quality of David's stuff.

Have a word with Sussex Steve. 👍

What sort of kit do you have to make one?

My hoist fitted on the bumper i made for the ranger then made a towing bracket for the d/Max so just modified it a bit.

I used a piece of scaffold pole that stuck out the back just enough to stop the carcass getting the paintwork too bloody. It had an eye bolt through the end so I could attach the ‘block & tackle’ & a couple of U bolts to secure it to a pair of roof rack bars. Very low tech but very easy to use.

Could easily be done by putting the pole inside the Ifor canopy & the securing U bolts up through the hoop channel section at the back & middle of the canopy. Use the right sized tubes & you could leave the larger one in situ & simply slide an extension in as & when needed. You might need to add a couple of angled braces between the top of the canopy where the radius ends & the top of the truck bed for good measure. Just a thought & hope it gets the brain cells working 👍

Could you use this concept?

The hoist pivots round making it easy to manoeuvre beasts into load compartment and lift off when not required.
Will handle reds with easy lift providing you can create top/bottom location mounts.you can with a CanAm.webp

How does it swivel around Russ...?

sounds a bit vague providing you can create top/bottom location mounts.....scale that door against a red on the gambrel and it will touching the floor.

My reading is as per the Op’s post and mindful there is further opportunity to gain a little more height by adjusting one of the key clamps:

“The hoist pivots round making it easy to manoeuvre beasts into load compartment.”

Not an ideal height I agree for suspended evisceration but I accept he’s good for a spot of Marlin trawling!
