SHOCKING COPPER. Can not beleave the rise in Copper Bullet Head Prices Ive just been to stock up my Ammo Box to find that 30-06 have gone up from 49-50p to 56-50p And to make things worse i am about to make a start on my 6.5x55 swede, to see that on the web page it showed 45-71p But when i called the shop they said it had changed to 53-10p Which Apparently is A lot cheaper than Other Reloading shops,Which are asking 64-00p the shop keeper told me it is all to do with the Good Old USA.and imports duty. These by The way are Boxs Of 50, ( Moan Over.)

Cant see it being anything to do with import duty as i dont think its changed, more likely to do with supply from the USA being low as there home market is under massive demand at the moment and prices over there have risen hugely which will have a knock on effect here with things costing importers more if they can get them at all

Also Remington who own Barnes have gone into receivership and I believe the ammo making section is being sold off. This may be them prepping the business for sale !!

Great information srvet and Mike L, Interesting, so it seems Sierra are on a win win Does this mean where going to see a Copper Game King in the future -would be Nice.

Sierra has both the skill and desire to make quality products, if they can make Barnes pay for its self good things should happen. We shall see.

Always shop around, and never ever buy pre-loaded ammo!

Found an RFD selling Barnes way below what the internet was wanting for them (less than £30 for a 50 box!) and like a dummy only bought one box!

Never making that mistake again, and no I'm not giving you my source!:stir::finger:

I ordered boxes of Barnes TTSX at £43 a box (+£5 postage), they were out of stock when I placed the order. When they arrived in stock the price jumped to £65 a box (+ £5 postage).
Unfortunately I couldn’t justify that hike, the supplier was equally gob smacked and luckily had another option for the sale.
I couldn’t believe the price jump.
Jeff.

Wish that i had seen these prices before buying the TTSX Copper bullet heads may have tried your 6.5mm 123grn, to be honest i had never heard of Peregrine Monolithics before, thanks for the information and Prices, what would the cost for postage be to DerbyShire. DE12.

If ordering copper - have people been selecting the same weight for the equivalent jacketed bullets they used?

I.E- I currently shoot a 150gr SPBT, should I buy 150gr copper? And will it be similar ballistic performance?
Regards,
Gixer

I would suggest going lighter than your normal bullet weight so 130g copper instead of 150 grain lead

I’m hoping Ed will answer this @Edinburgh Rifles as I thought the drop in weight was to compensate for the need of a faster bullet so it would open up. Looking at peregrine they deform down to 1600fps so would think you could almost go like for like. Am I wrong Ed?

You do not need to drop a weight or drive a copper bullet fast for it to expand properly.

when I reloaded my loads were all mediocre soo f no more than 2850fps.

the only calibre I dropped a weight was the 6.5x55 where I went from a 140gn to 120gn simply because I needed longer range.

thenI saw sense and bought a 270!

problem solved.

On another note does it matter what the cost is?

when I loaded Barnes Cost me about £1 per projectile or £50 a box.

mind you back in the cliffs gunsmithing days they were a better price, but that was buying on the USD

their not that much different now.

can’t see what all these fuss is about.
