Usually the latter, Basil. However, in this particular case, they had a specific order for lions from a witch.Carl, are these traps set specifically to catch predators or just in the hope of catching anything big enough to sell/eat ?
Good on you mate, how could they use such a barbaric piece of equipment.Let's hope that snake doesn't get out of the bag, eh...![]()
Only just saw this mention today and I don`t know why but the miss may have been during one of my enforced holidays here.We recognised that using traps such as this to catch wild dogs in Australia is something that we have historically supported. For example, @johngryphon in Victoria.
Upset to see these pictures. I won’t pretend to understand motivations to commit, what I personally see as, a barbaric reckless act. whilst some may recognise that poverty may play a part in poacher’s motivations, however that is no excuse imo. As for the man controlling them, I would suggest his own leg is placed in one of his gin traps and left for the lions to “manage ” accordingly. I’m sure his black magic would protect him of course, might send a useful message to future would be poachers. I don’t have funds too book a hunt, or gift a classic Ferrari Unfortunately, but would happily fund the diesel costs to help “feed the lions”. Utmost respect for the work you do.Our scouts at the coutada have arrested all six poachers, and identified the man controlling them.
Poverty isn’t the main reason but sheer laziness. Too many handouts have made them overly reliant on government help.Upset to see these pictures. You could be right we went down so many riverbeds I couldn’t be certain. That lion was trapped to order
Local witch doctor wanted it for muti and potions
I was hoping to go out to Carl’s this Oct
I’ll have to wait now until next year

PS
I think I recognise that rock formation @Cumbrian 1
About 400m along the dry river bed to the right of camp?

Third lion now found and fixed up. It is my new pet, 'Tiddles' that escaped from his release boma a few weeks ago.Poor sod.
The first two will be fine, as @deerstalker.308 says, because they are part of a pride social structure. The last one is yet to hook up with any mates so I am much more worried about him. We will shoot food and leave it for him to find for the next few weeks while he gets used to being a tripod. Hopefully, he'll team up with a young female or two soon.
Usually, poachers avoid catching lions for obvious reasons. However, we snatched a few guys recently who told us that a man who keeps a snake in a bag (i.e. a witch) had told them to target them and bring them to him. The parts can be used locally in witchcraft and also sold to the far east for the usual medical b0ll0cks.
Our enquiries continue...
Hey Carl, that’s great work you and your team are doing and very brave too. Are you full time in Moz now or do you get back to Herefordshire at all. If you do PM me and I’ll take you deer stalking.
Carl doesn't come on here any more and now lives in France

Still a lovely offer. That’s a pity he used to live just up the road from me. But in Herefordshire that’s half an hour away.
Still a lovely offer.
His content on this site is much missed.
You guys are something else, I really don't feel well done is enough!!
