Tyre feedback

I run General Grabber AT3s on 3 of our Isuzu D-Max DL-40 trucks and on an Amarok Pan-American. We now also run 3 other new Isuzu V-Cross Commercials on BFG KO2 tyres which we have found much better in deep mud and long wet grass. The AT3s definitely feel better on tarmac. Our driving is probably mostly off-road and on gravel tracks etc - but we also do A-road and motorway driving so its a bit of a toss-up really. We cannot afford to get stuck so probably will move over to the BFG KO2 on all trucks eventually. The AT3s are excellent in deep mud and long wet grass on the Amarok, and I think that may be down to the engine torque and managed power delivery of the V6 3.0L Amarok (Ford dressed up as a VW).

Best tyre B F Goodrich ever made, in my opinion at least, was the TracEdge - had a set on my 90 when I first bought it & they were fantastic. Alas, for reasons unknown they stopped making them 🤦

Tread pattern is an per Insa Turbo Traction Trac.

I can never understand the logic or the thought process that people have. Who have two sets of wheels/tyres and say one set is for winter and the other for summer?
Then they say Its to save wearing my expensive all terrain or mud pattern tyres out 🤣
Total divi backward thinking if you ask my opinion on it.20260115_115414.webp

Don't know if anyone has already mentioned them but I put a set of Falken Wildpeak Rugged terrain on my D-Max very pleased so far. I have always used BFG all Terrain and had no issues whatsoever. I changed as they are in between All Terrain and Mud Terrain.

@vss…ask this question to chat gpt. I did it recently and actually pretty excellent at narrowing it down through its questions to you…then it’ll find the cheapest place new you to have the right ones fitted.

Make you question very specific…I currently have BFg on my Isuzu exact model but they do x y z in the wet on mud etc I need them to do e f g specifically what is my best option…

I don’t really like BFG. Have had AT and MT - alright but only just.

Currently running Falken WildPeak MT on a few double cabs, 4 I think at the moment and quite like them - plenty of grip. Seem to be wearing ok and £100 a corner cheaper than BFG.

Have had Cooper STT and Pro previously and really liked them too.

RT might be an option?

Thank you.
That's helpful feedback from someone who has compared the two.

Nitto trail grappler if you're after a hybrid. Nothing I have tried has touched them!

But, and here's the thing - running any mud tyre, bfg included (i have also tried the MT) aired down will do wonders for your vehicle. I literally carry a compressor on board for sticky situations when I know fully aired just wont cut it.

Have a search through this -

He does some good videos and gives everything a fair test. There should be something there that tickles your fancy if you cant get the answer on falken. The falken fast road/track tyres are brilliant btw but not what you're after 😂

And they will NOT compare to a winter tyre in weather under 6 degrees. Night and day difference. Muds are also awful in snow and ice! Some AT's work but still not on par with winter tyres

I’ve run comforcer cf3000 for alot of years now, on work trucks, and my own personal one, I can’t fault them, they perform very well on the road, and incredibly well off road,

I’m a div so I have winter and summer road tyres. As far as I can remember from when I read about it a while ago, it’s mainly softer rubber and siping that you need for sub 4 deg c and wet/ice/snow.

Or is it 6? Or 7?

I have a fabulous anecdote about winter tyres, which sounds too perfect to be true but really is.

A mate called in for coffee on a snowy Sunday morning, on the way to lunch at his mum’s. I always remind people when they visit in snow to be careful on my T junction. He brushed aside my concerns. He has 4wd (Audi TT Quattro) don’t you know. Over coffee I pointed out that four spinning tyres are still spinning tyres and perhaps he might be interested in these new Michelin Cross Climates that had been out for a while and people really rate. What price peace of mind? No no. He had 4wd.

Anyway, he leaves, was fine on the T, probably drove out thinking I’m a poof. WhatsApp twenty minutes later. He’s slid down his mum’s driveway and part-demolished her brick garage. Walloping bill, insurance claim, bent car.

He still only buys cheap summers.

Was a BFG fanboy for 20 years. That was until the latest (ko2 or at2 can't remember) didn't like cornering or particularly stopping well on wet roads.Did a bit of investigation and was told it turned out that not only the pattern but the rubber consistency had changed to meet EU safety/noise rules.I dont know if this was just dealer talk but it certainly explained what I experienced

I've used Cooper since but they're not (or weren't) that easy to get hold of so the go to is the General Grabbers which I can't fault

As DB says the Trac Edge were fabulous tyre

Yeh pretty much, it depends on manufacturer but anywhere between 3 and 8 seems to be the number
