UK Deer Dog Group

Dont forget standbuck any payment invalidates most insurances!!!!!

look at firearms legislation too eg the conditions of use.

BDS insurance is still valid if being paid.

Shooting in my experiance would be the exception rather than the rule. Personally I have never used a gun on an animal that I have used a dog on.

Stand Buck
Please don't take this the wrong way but just hold back on your register a little untill you hav spoken to me, you might be quite surprised
I also hav set up such a scheme with such a website and register to boot which is all but ready to launch just adjusting a few things to the site before it is realeased
Now after speaking to Mark
12 months too late i admit it could of saved a lot of time money and frustration if we had combined heads back then
what Mark has set out will or should hav no bearing in what i am setting up and how it will be run
as this is not just about a register but about deer welfare , dog welfare and handlers welfare , stalkers welfare and so on
when put in a strange enviorment to try and help out in a difficult situation
the logistics of putting all this to gether to get a happy medium to suit and protect all concerned has not been easy and will always be ongoing
it could be that your site could be combined with others to help make things work
as to make it work we all need to be on the same wave-length singing the same song
no that i am trying persuade you from trying such a venture, just think a little , and hear what i hav to say before you decide is all i ask but we also need to wait and see the outcome from what Mark has
i hav put a short post up as another thread to start the ball rolling in gathering prospective voluanteers
for such a register
LETS WORK TOGETHER GUYS and see what happens
Regards

Dog tracking register

Hi,

My buddy runs the Bodo bande equipment company in Germany and does this tracking ca. 80 times per year (he has a professional forester pal who does about 1000 searches pa in The Thuringia area of east Germany so they do know of what they talk about) he showed me their (voluntary trespass permission passport) this is arranged in advance.
This allows the dog handler to do an armed trespass onto the surrounding lands where the deer may have bedded down in, and not risk being accused of poaching, traditionally and practically the handler always dispatches the beast.
Any comments on this idea for the UK?

Hi Folks,

Very interested in the idea of a "National Register" one question living in Northern Ireland ... are we included in the scope of the register ? I own a GWP that im trying to train for tracking, regarding relevent courses as far as i know there has only been 1 intro day run by BASC a number of years ago. It would seem that some amount of travel my be required to attend courses on the main land (England)... mmmm

AFAIAA both the UK deer dog register and the ill conceived Schweiss UK organisation have both die a death. As is often the case where you have a fundamentally good idea but the day to day practicalities and operational difficulties prove to be beyond the capabilities of those hoping to get the scheme off the ground. Whilst at first glance such schemes might appear feasible the insurmountable logistical complexities inevitably see them fail before getting into the operational stage even at highly restricted local or regional levels.

Read most of this forum with a mixture of hope and sadness. If stalkers that already use dog rant on like this what hope have we got.
I feel that there are several fundamental problems that face us.
1.Any register/data base of stalkers could lead to backdoor regulation
2.Deer are regarded as vermin by many especially farmers with crops.
3.The majority of stalkers I have spoken to when they find I use a dog make two comments ,the first is why do I have a dog? and following my explanation the second is 'Oh but I never miss'.
A register is a fantastic ambition and one that I would subscribe to,but after following this forum we have no chance.
