Interesting track yesterday for Nobby and his lab Wilson
Call to a fallow buck that was shot late Friday
Shot site was marked and was medium length quite fine light colored hair.
Stalker had a look first with his dog but backed out and decided to called us
Upon attending the call
There was little at the shot site apart from slots and some hair
The track soon showed the deer had run out into wheat field and looped back into roderdendrums.
They Tracked through the Rhodies for about 800m of which was mainly on hands and knees
This led out on to a tarmac road.
Wilson marked a spot of blood on a leaf. Across the other side of the road and on through a hedge
Across a grass field and into a strip wood where 3 more spots of blood were marked. 700m further along the wood Wilson started air scenting
Deer was then spotted lay up but got up and started to move off
Quick shot taken but not enough
At this Wilson was now slipped as no further shots could be taken
Picking up the now hot track the track... straight off 100m down the side of a field missed a turn corrected himself and jumped a ditch into a wood. Straight up through the wood Next saw him going flat out across a rape field.
Quick look at GPS for direction and follow the noise in the wood as deer now being bayed up in a stream
Dog called off and deer despatched
The track took 4hrs and approx 2.5km
Good call by the stalker
Well done Nobby and Wilson
Great result
