Unusual munty antlers ???

You don’t say! Hence my comment about casting...... and yes the other antler did come off in my hand.
No where in you post do you state that that one has just cast. I can't see that you have even commented on the one in the picture. I know that it has whilst others may not. Just because you shoot a lot of munties (as do I ) doesn't mean that everyone shoots a lot of them or knows a lot about them. I have just stated what you clearly didn't! :tiphat:

“would agree with this unless it happened to be a lucky shot when the antlers were partially cast....”

Sure did...... that’s what the photo was of! In support of my comment about it being a lucky photo of a partially cast animal.

Here is the most unusual one that I have shot.View attachment 208443View attachment 208444
That is an odd one indeed, I “would” say mechanical damage at some point which has damaged the pedicle but it’s then managed to grow a very uniform and un-deformed antler if that is the case which would make that unlikely and the skull doesn’t show any sign of damage/deformity, did it have any testicular damage visible? Or an injury?

Everything looked normal and to be honest I didn't notice it until I took its head off back at home.

Your ramblings made no sense at all to me 308. Try reading them again as if you were an outsider looking in. You were replying to someone else and uploaded a random photo of a munty buck with one antler. Only you knew when you were replying and when you were taking about the buck you uploaded.

@terrier1 That is a very unusual trophy. Could be the result of an accident or it could be simply a deformity which are rare in munty bucks that haven't been injured. Perhaps someone like Charles Smith-Jones or one of the CIC guys may have more of an idea. Perhaps send the picture in to the Shooting times. It may get published? I doubt that you would ever shoot another like it in 3 life times though.

I give up. If you can’t read, that’s unfortunate, don’t worry, at least there was a pretty picture for you to look at. Feel free to hit the ignore button on my name then both our lives will be happier hereafter

Personal opinion (I’m sure it differs across the country) however what’s your preferred month for a munty trophy?

I thought so, just worried @Tim.243 will get to him before me and he won’t share an outing with me 😆. On another note I should build my high seat by then. Good thread with some interesting animals.

But I don’t ever go out with the notion of selecting a specific muntjac for trophy purposes, they get shot on sight year round unless they are likely to have young at foot, Bucks get shot whether velvet or shedding, they could be in next doors being shot tomorrow so why wait. Especially with a neighbour like @Tim.243 I’d get him shot, why wait?

I don’t understand those old measurements the older generation uses, there’s only one unit of measurement as far as I’m concerned, “can I kill it cleanly” yup, bang.
