UPDATE: TVP FAC/SGC Renewals

Hi Ed
I had exactly the same in November I phoned them up on the day it expired to get a section 7 and they said they had just completed it and it was ready for posting and it arrived 2 days later

FINAL UPDATE:
Including the Christmas and New Year break, just 7 working days from the quickly arranged FEO visit, 18 days from the expiration of the previous certificates and my Renewals have arrived in the post...

Result! :thumb:

And a good start to the New Year for you.

I hope this serves as a good example to those who find themselves in similar situations but are undecided about pushing back for fear of 'rocking the boat', etc.

Many key points in your post I farticus - knowing your ground, knowing the law, pointing out the mistakes which can have v serious consequences and doing it at a time when you are clearly 'beyond the pale'. Pushing firmly but reasonably in these circumstances should correct the balance and others will be emboldened by your no-nonsense approach. Congrats and enjoy the new shooting year

What mystifies me is the delays are due to checks which are for public safety, so they issue a section 7 while carrying out these checks. You already have a gun, so public safety is obviously not a problem, home visit by a flo ? , to check safety, pointless, you know he is coming, you arranged the visit, apart from waisting your time and costing you a cup of coffee, what does it achieve, the whole system needs a shake up, led by someone with common sense not the police, time and millions of pounds would be saved, with no threat to public safety.

Well my temp permit has arrived - which keeps me legal until July 2016.

What really p''d me off was the tone and attitude of the covering letter - they are blaming me for the delay. The first paragraph states that the application has not been received in good time. And yes it is in bold and underlined. Then they go on to use the peak renewal period and the flood that they suffered.

Can anyone remember how long ago it was that this "flood" occurred - must be a couple of years now?.

May write to my MP - I wonder if DC actually reads any of his correspondence?

I would reply stating what you feel - this is just and excuse but blaming you is disingenuous and will stay on your file unless you respond - I would send a copy of your (temperate) response and the original toyour MP - but check your facts on 'the flood' etc first so you are 100% correct. Authority and public safety only benefit when truth is the foundation of the system of regulation and control. Remember Dunblane, and Durham.

well it looks like I will shortly be in the same boat, paperwork put in 5 months before renewal date, and sweet fanny adams done about it as far as I can ascertain :banghead:

Well I am now 8 weeks into a 6 month extension and still no phone call, that after all my original paperwork going missing and hand delivering the second set of forms to reception

how did you get with your expanding ammo? did you have to lodge it ?

I have also worked on the assumption that an s7 permit does not allow possession of most, if not all of my rifle ammo which is, 'expanding'.

On Monday, the next working day for the Department when I presume they all go back to work, I will be in illegal possession of both firearms and shotguns and quite a few soft and hollow point bullets.
I have no doubt that my FC is all completed and ready for delivery but it would seem, I presume, that the FEO is so busy he hasn't got round to me. It is really cutting it fine this time round and is a worry I could do without.
My FEO visited the day after my FC expired BUT he delivered my new FC on the day of the visit and I noticed it was printed out on the 21st December.

UPDATE: TVP have just lost another FEO.

This is the email bounceback that I have received:
"I have retired from TVP.
Please contact Firearms Licensing Department on 01865 846566 or email firearmslicensing@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk or IF URGENT CALL 101 The office telephone lines are open to the public between the following hours: 14.00 - 16.00 (Mon to Fri) If your enquiry is of an urgent nature please call 08458 505 505. Thank you."

So far that's 3 gone in the last 12 months or so just across my patch, so I'm not sure that things are going to get any easier/quicker until they fill these gaps. On the other hand, they might not have any plans to fill the gaps, and we'll just have to wait even longer for anything to move.

So much for the increase in fees giving us a better quality of service...

as of a couple of months ago I was told they were 30% down on staff due to cuts and yet were actively trying to fill several positions, seems mad to me but who am I?

Actually spoke to a Thames Valley FEO today. I expected to be leaving a message rather caught me by surprise when a human answered. It didn't get me anywhere though the chap has just returned from annual leave . He did check his outstanding paperwork - no sign of my SGC Renewal. "it must still be with admin, they are rather behind at the moment". He will ring me if it turns up when he gets around to opening his post bag.

So here we are fast approaching 8 months and nothing.

Patience

Sorry to hear everyone's trouble. Has anyone got any recent experience of FAC grant times with Thames valley? If anyone has an up to date idea of waiting times that would be brill. Thanks

I was told by the last outgoing FEO that Renewals are being processed ahead of Variations, and new FAC/SGC grants are even further down the list... My neighbour's arrived last month having taken 11 months to process, so they've not been clearing the backlog very fast.

Probably not the feedback you were hoping for
