UPDATE: TVP FAC/SGC Renewals

Information about BASC Direct is on the BASC web site

Thank you - I dont find the explantion very helpful and this is a little vague - "in order to enhance the growing and sustainable non-subscription income stream"

It also doesnt say whether the company is a Co-operative or a Charity, at least as far as I can find still I shall carry on looking and see what can be 'dug-up'.

This won't be help moving forwards, as they could look to cut back elsewhere to fund a recruitment drive:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-berkshire-42805114

"Thames Valley Police (TVP) is struggling to fill posts as officers are leaving the force at a higher rate than new recruits joining.A "combination" of an increase in retirements, high living costs and transfers to other forces were reasons for the shortfall in numbers.#
The force said it was short of 98 officers with a net loss of 26 a month."

Arms Dealer Has Sentence Reduced:
The judge who jailed the trio said any crime involving guns was “extremely serious”. But Khan's lawyers argued that his jail term was too tough and should be reduced.
The weapons involved were at the “lower end of the spectrum” in terms or seriousness, the court was told.
The revolvers were designed for training or target shooting and would “not be a weapon of choice for anyone wishing to endanger life”.
Allowing Khan's appeal, Mrs Justice Nichola Davies said that “insufficient weight was given to the nature of the weapons.”

The "nature of the weapons" is that they will kill. We are forced to jump through increasingly small and flaming hoops as certified firearms and shotgun owners, yet we clearly aren't the problem.

Just an update for my most recent dealings with TVP - a positive one!

Shotgun Cert renewal due in mid April. Received the reminder letter just before Christmas and got everything sent off. Had a text this morning to say that it had been granted and was in the post.

I haven't had any phone calls or anything from them other than to ask me to send some up to date pictures as I'd sent some slightly older ones (same as my FAC grant a couple of years back). No interview or anything but I've had both an FAC grant and FAC variation in the last two years.

Seems that I'm lucky not to be having any problems with temp certs etc!

it appears that thames valley feo,s are still insisting we pay the gp,s fees,my brother and brother in law have both had gp,s letters asking for money and both were told by feo they must pay before their fac,s will be processed. unfortunatley they have both paid as they dont want any delays or problems. can we not have it in black and white that the advice is DO NOT PAY the grabbing gp,s fees.the basc say dont pay and all will be fine,i have sent mine off this week, its not due untill september but tv firearms dept,<include four photos, new form says one!> said send it in now.

Hi,
I don’t know if this is relevant to this thread anymore, but, during the period when G.M.P. had to review approximately 11,500 certificates, they were still able to renew (Copy cert sent in with app.) peoples certificates before their expiry dates.
It doesn’t get better than that.
Regards,Ken.

i, like many others think the firearms department at thames valley needs to be replaced from the top down as they are not fit for purpose.if we dont do our jobs will would soon be with out jobs

A gentlemen who wanted to buy one of my rifles recently backed out of the sale because TV refused his variation, he has a 308 and a 22LR, he told me, they cited him not keeping records of his attendance at the range as the reason for refusal, even though he explained that he did not need to because the range will have his attendance records, i have no reason to doubt what he has said and he was not willing to fight the decision.

Credit where credit is due - I had an unfilled slot for a .223. I posted off the variation form last Wednesday asking for it to be changed to 6.5x55 and I got my completed FAC back from TVP today, so less than a week's turnaround.

Excellent service from TVP sent certificate in for 1 for 1 variation last week received new certificate back today...cannot ask for more than that.
Well done to them :-D

sent variation form in monday, got it back today.......they can't process it because they haven't updated my records re the old rifle (informed them by email as requested, before the variation was posted) seems like the "get it off my desk" fairy won over the "hmm wonder if I email the sender there might be a reason he sent it in" fairy :-P
oh well, more work for them I guess .

well sent off the variation again this Monday, got it back all sorted today! if this is the new TVP firearms than I am all for it ! very impressed they managed to turn the boat around as dramatically as they seem to have :thumb:

So, applied for renewal with four and a bit months to go, nothing happened so asked for s7 cert which arrived (they were helpful about this), I did get a letter saying I need to pay a fee to my doctor (which I ignored on BASC advice), FEO came round for a general chat and didn’t mention the doctor issue, no probs with the renewal. So things are a bit slow but they seem to be working.

Would say renewals are not moving at pace, have mine in at the moment. Had a letter stating needed to be in 6 months in advance, already had everything ready to go so off it went.
Cheque has been cashed, FEO has phoned me and all that side sorted still no other correspondence from them as of yet.
Still 6 weeks till my licences expire so time yet.

Got a text the next day from TVP Certs in the post, came on Friday.
All in all about 5 months for renewal.

Just had letters from TVP asking me to renew early for a reduced fee so that they can avoid the issues at normal renewal. This was caused by the shift to 5 year licences apparently, and there will be a huge number of us renewing at the same time in 2 years. Reduction is to £25 for co-terminous, but still going to charge for the Doctor's report.
Thoughts...?

Take advantage of the application reduction and chin off paying the doc. Seems to be a viable option based off previous posters.

I'm just glad to hear that you're not giving up completely.

Re. the opening post, they're admitting they've got a problem & are trying to do something about it which I would have thought was all good. Even if it's not the ideal time for you to be doing a renewal it's optional.
