Uploading current FAC and doctors form to online application

Do you need a scanner to upload your FAC and doctors forms to the police website? Or can you use photos from your phone?

I've just been through this applying for a variation. I took a photo of each page and tried to upload but you can only upload one photo, so I struggled trying to get all six on one page. My mate said he photocopied the back 3 pages, layed out all six pages and took a photo of the lot. I've done this and submitted on Friday so hopefully that will be ok.

Just waiting for the Doc to complete my form for renewal. So will be doing the same soon. Getting a bit tight on time!!

In order to do my renewal I downloaded the Adobe scanning app (free) and also which converts it to a pdf file. I then had to download a file compressing app to reduce the size of the file to send off. Both worked fine and are free. All done on my phone. Unfortunately my licensing dept will only accept on line applications and no hardcopies through the post.

Jesus what a game print off the forms the medical form comes with it and post it recorded much easier
It may be easier for you but it's extra work for FLDs. It also generates delays for other FAC holders who have taken the trouble to adjust to computerised applications.
There's no difficulty in saving the online form each step of the way, and returning to it over several days so that's not a valid complaint.
The online system has been in use for at least 5 years. This letter from BCH Licensing makes the point that cyber-luddites really need to get with the program. :);)

@Sinistral

Would you be kind enough to confirm how this is done?

If this is true, then it would take away much of the disquiet, I feel about the online renewal process. I have read of horror stories of folks 'losing' their whole application when (for instance) they try and go back a page. I have sufficient firearms to make the 'pause and return' option a Godsend, when it comes to completing the 'paperwork'.

I am not due this trauma until next year, but IT is not my friend, and so would welcome any tips and tricks that smoothes out the process.

The days of printing it all off, inking my quill, and then stuffing it all into a manilla envelope for hand delivery to the FLD, appear to becoming (much like myself) a thing of the past. Incidentally, so is the 7 day turnaround - remember them?

Which should be challenged by the likes of BASC as nothing in the legislation states online only, what if you have no online ability?

Whilst I do not want to go down this particular rabbit hole.

If you submit your application on the 'correct forms' and with the required payment, the Police are required by law, to process that application.

I understand the 'push' for online, I understand the 'preferences' of any FLD, but there it is.

I tried saving the form and thought it was all going well until the end when I got this message:

And that was after painstakingly filling in all of the information they already have about what firearms I have etc. Took me about 2 hrs.
Also I have to answer questions like:
What’s your date of birth: 08/08/1982
Followed by…….
Are you under 18? Yes or No? 🤣 WTF

My advice is do a dummy run so you can plan exactly what info and docs you require and then go for it with a minimum delay. All the time being mindful not to hit the back <- (Alt+Left arrow).

Things may have changed as per https://www.thestalkingdirectory.co.uk/members/2744/ reference to “saving as you go” but this was not the case when I renewed mine some 12-months ago.

Those docs you would like to upload as supporting evidence but find you can’t, may be attached to the email at the end of the process.

Never knew this and they don't mention it on the website but they wouldn't would they.
