Variation for larger caliber

Hello. This is just a query to hopefully put my mind at rest.

I've accompanied my dad for a few years deer stalking, but only last year I got my FAC, I've held it for around 6 months now.
I sent a letter in explaining that I had accompanied my dad stalking and I was granted the .243 I requested with no problems.
I'm now in the fortunate position to have invites from friends up to Scotland to shoot Red/Sika deer, I know the 243 is capable but I've put in a variation for a 7mm08 with a couple of letters from the people who I've been invited by to hopefully justify being able to have a 7mm08.

Anyone had any experience with applying for a larger caliber with not having an FAC for very long.

Cheers

yes me, While I am still waiting for my ticket to come back signed my FAO was happy that I had good reason and signed off on it. I would expect it to be fine.

I also put in a quick variation after first grant - don't know how long, but certainly under 12m.

I had .243 on my certificate and wanted to lose that and have 6.5x55mm instead.

Don't know if you're applying for a second rifle, or to change as I did but that might have a bearing... Always worth speaking directly to your FEO as well, as they can give you guidance on getting the best outcome for you - ie empty slot for 7mm-08

Good luck though

I've asked for 7mm08 along side my 243.
The 243 is down for deer and fox.
The 7mm08 I requested just for deer.

I can't see why they wouldn't grant you both as you have letters from the land you'll be on. Hopefully they'll send your licence back with AOLQ on both, so you won't need to worry about what wanders out in front of you :-)

Funny you should mention that. I asked for my FAC top be opened too.

I forgot to mention something quite important. I passed my DSC level 1 last month and I have also sent in a covering letter from the college.

You're ticking boxes that they shouldn't even be asking for... Speak to your FEO though, as there's nothing better than a chat rather than purely relying on paperwork going through the snail mail system

It's amazing how things differ isn't it. My renewal certificates (2nd renewal) arrived two friday's but I had a devil of a job persuading them to let me have a 2nd deer calibre rifle despite being semi professional.
Good luck but don't assume that it will be totally straight forward. Hopefully it will be though!
