Venison price is ridiculous

That’s really good I’m gob smacked that New Zealand deer is imported here we need to get the BDS to push land owners to take a more active part by either shooting more or giving the permission to people lol
NZ venison is still too cheap to import.

Incorrect.

You should not share a vehicle with anyone from another household, unless you absolutely have to.

If this is the case, you should take the following steps and precautions:

· if sharing a vehicle with anyone from another household, limit the number of people in the vehicle to as few as possible, ideally no more than 2 (applies to adults and children aged 12 and over)

· use the biggest vehicle available for car sharing purposes

· occupants should sit as far apart as possible, ideally the passenger should sit in the back seat diagonally opposite the driver, aiming for 2 metre distancing between occupants

· windows in the car should be opened as far as possible taking account of weather conditions to improve ventilation in the space

· occupants in the car, including the driver, should wear a face covering provided it does not compromise driver safety in any way

· occupants should perform hand hygiene before entering the vehicle and again on leaving the vehicle

· occupants should avoid eating in the vehicle

· passengers in the vehicle should minimise any surfaces touched

· keep the volume of any music/radio to a minimum to prevent the need to raise voices in the car

· the longer the journey, the higher the risk; keep journey times to the minimum feasible and do not linger in the vehicle before or after the journey itself

· where non-household members are car-sharing, the car must be cleaned regularly (at least daily) and particular attention should be paid to high risk touch points such as door handles, electronic buttons and seat belts. General purpose detergent is sufficient unless a symptomatic or confirmed case of COVID-19 has been in the vehicle in which case a disinfectant (e.g. chlorine-based product) should be used

Slider - would contractors be exempt from that pending their own covid protocols?

There has definately been night shooting going on round here but not from FLS staff, just contractors.

So, how many of you have tried setting up to sell your own venison?
I set up as a food business at the tail end of last year. I now have customers who will not go anywhere else for their venison. They would rather wait for me to supply them, than go elsewhere. I am not shooting big numbers but a loyal customer base and word of mouth is working well for me. Do I make any money???? Quite possibly not if you take into account the time , fuel, ammo, blank outings.

Yes we would all love to make loads of money but I happy to promote an amazing product for a reasonable price. I have even given it away free to people that have never tried it before. All have came back wanting to purchase venison afterwards.

Likewise- I'm slightly pricier than you. I took Waitrose pricing as my benchmark for butchered, vacuum packed/fully labelled cuts- on the basis that their venison offer includes farmed and New Zealand venison. Consumers are prepared to pay more for local provenance and organic (tho you have to use the term carefully). It's hard work, but I shifted 110~ fallow/roe last year that way.
well done that’s a great achievement, last year was a lot better than the previous year for sales by a long chalk

I think this is the way to go. In Germany where I go hunting there is a gentleman who has followed this approach. He has a thriving business. His real money is made from venison and wild boar hams, sausages, and salamis that he makes and sells around Christmas time. They are fantastic.

He has invested into some good chillers, and a couple of winches so that skinning is much quicker.

He will also take in deer and boar from other hunters and for about €60 to €100 will turn it into oven and freezer ready vacuum sealed portions in a day or so.

It also helps that there is a famous brothel that you pass on the way to his premises. I am told that he offers, for an extra fee, to turn a beast around whilst you wait!!

A lot of contractors in the forestry sector (whether cullers, tree planters, harvesters) got around many of these protocols by forming households so that they shared accommodation and worked together.
