shoppjng with my wife never look at prices but noticed venison £4.00 for 300 grms some one is makeing a fortune this was in morrisons monday

Wouldnt say that was outrageous given the time in handling, disposal of waste, business overheads, logistics, packaging, marketing etc.
whilst I do feel that the current prices being offered by dealers is a shambles, retail mark-ups are totally understandable. Ask a dairy farmer what they sell milk for, or how much 6 hens eggs are worth at production end, I suspect you’ll be amazed.
£12 per kg for mince or diced isn’t much more than I regularly used to sell it for domestically. Don’t bother any more and just give to friends and family, but if I did, £10/kg was the going rate.....

We’re trying to cut out the main supermarket chains as much as possible.
Get meat from local butchers, free range eggs and hens from local farm and veg from local growers. Unfortunately we don’t have a dairy close by the bottles it’s own milk otherwise we’d be straight down there.

A truly odd colour for venison, however, given they don’t seem to be stating what type of venison it is, maybe it’s Rabbit venison?
i went into a local hipster styled cringe butchers shop a couple of years back ( you know, a bunch of blokes with Peaky blinder haircuts and crap tattoos on both forearms with silly hair face and cloth caps) they had venison for sale too, I asked them what type of venison it was and they explained to me that venison comes from Stag deers !
that’s not a joke. it actually happened.
kindest regards, Olaf

Now that is interesting Ken, and something I'm sure that some of us would not have thought of! Thanks for posting it. :thumb:
So according to the attached "article" we could go to a supermarket for some "Venison" and maybe end up with Hare, Ibex, Goat, "Wild Pig" (Not sure if they mean Wild Boar or just Feral Pig) or heaven knows what!

You'll not also that farmed deer, not being hunted, doesn't qualify as venison under that criteria. Dear meat!

Don't get stuck on the prise you see things up for sale for. Every year it gets more and more expensive to run any business. It's just a result of more rules and regs and there is a whole group of people employed to just do that to justify their existence it will only get worse.
