Hi All,

I’ve read the threads on Moderator cleaning and understand both sides of the discussion. I DO fully intent to keep cleaning my Wildcat Predator 12 regardless.

So can anyone point me in the direction of any suitable (in size as well as performance) vibratory cleaners for a man of very modest means please?

I do wish to disc my choice.

Thanks

What's the matter with just stripping it and cleaning it with powder solvent?
I was recently given some Witham gun barrel and choke cleaner and tried it out on my Wildcat Predator 8 and was quite impressed by the results.

Incidentally if you did put the component parts in a vibratory cleaner besides the problem of getting out all the media wouldn't you possibly have the issue of also scouring off any anodising?
You are also likely to damage the O rings if you keep removing and replacing them.

OK, thanks all for the replies, I appreciate your advice.
I am going to try @8x57 idea first, it looks like a reasonable product. I’ll buy a can of that this evening.
Second choice will be @Jon P his offering is also very reasonable and cost effective. I thought that whatever was in Coke that has that effect had been removed. I may be getting the fact that my big sister used Coke to bleach her jeans back in the 60’s.
As a last resort @triggertix has a very novel suggestion, it will be a last resort.
I hadn’t thought through getting media stuck, but it’s was sound advice that I will follow @Ronin and @8x57 (again👍).
I hadn’t thought through left my moderator for a few hundred rounds (target on mil ranges and Orion). And on stripping (difficult the holes in the diffuser were noticeably reduced in size)

I finished cleaning my rifle, moderator and gear last evening after a few hours at Cotswold Shooting. Whilst I’m going to order my 1st choice this afternoon, I’m next out at IR2 to 900 meters on the 24. Testing will start then.

Your input is greatly appreciated, I do like to keep my stuff clean, but the odd scratch doesn’t worry me at all.

You guys are the reason I signed up on here 🤩🤩👍

I use a ultrasonic cleaner for mine. Bit of citric acid and fairy does the job well. You could do this in a bucket and a soak on citric acid and warm water will do it.
It's carbon so anything that will get rid of carbon will do the job. Traffic film remover would do as well.
A vibratory cleaner will take forever.

Your be sorry !
buy a cheap ultrasonic that will allow you to place all the parts in or a bath of Carbon tet tank and thick rubber gloves lol .
Mine gets a fizzy bath and a stiff brushing and new O'rings every year.

I once put a Parker Hale .22 RF mod. in my sonic cleaner….it went in black and came out pale grey all over.

I got a couple of secondhand Wildcat Panthers, believe me the rimfire rounds are seriously dirty, and these were seriously encrusted.

Multiple sessions, totally hours, in the ultrasonic did a good job of cleaning loose rubbish, and maintaining that, but still not clean.

Got some Ballistol Silencer Cleaner, and even just soaking in that made a huge difference. Standing the diffuser in a plastic jar full of the Ballistol, in the ultrasonic and it is almost as new.
