Vintage Leather Lens covers.

I own a few sets of Vintage leather lens covers that came with and are correct for the vintage scopes that they were made for, my question relates to their maintenance, over time they become loose/slack on both ocular and objective lens housings which really isn’t a problem but can be annoying when the rifles are stored, one particular ocular cover tends to become detached and hangs limp when it should remain where it belongs.

The leather covers are generally in good condition along with their original stitching, now finally to my question, can the leather be conditioned in any way so they will again grip the housings and l can be sure that they won’t become detached through gravity ?

The photo shows the set that are most problematic, they were made in the 1940’s, your collective knowledge will be very much appreciated.

There's another Ajax scope on ,Auctionet. It may be a civilian one and it has leather lens caps.

@Jagare @dunwater

I must apologise for not answering your contributions before now, l was called away on urgent family matters.

Thanks Jagare for your reference l do get notifications when anything becomes available but I’ll keep my eye on the auction…….do l really need another…..probably !

Thanks dunwater perhaps saddle soap could rehydrate the aged leather and plump it up slightly ensuring a tighter fit, and l get what you’re saying about leaving them in situ wicking the oil away but so far never had a problem.
