Vinyl Friday

A Tuesday 'chill' and from a Welsh band that is some way from representative of their output. It may however not work for you as back in the day this was an album (track) I played often and we all know how the sounds & smells of our bedroom years has that ability to colour memories!

This however is more lile it, MAN!

Ps: Keep guessing and if, by the 6000[SUP]th[/SUP] reply, there is still no competition winner I’ll “open the box” and reveal the very hardcore content!

Ok, I'll see you the Elevators and raise you a Sopwith Camel - including the world's best rockin sax solo:

And just to top it all off let's have far more guitar music than anyone ever needed or wanted from the Bevis Frond:

and some hypnotic Meredith Monk, unique voice and she even made a video:

Possibly the greatest US singer/songwriter of his generation:

Quite how anyone of such tender years could write the knowing songs as appear on the “Pretender” is beyond me.

SD “Cold Turkey” is clearly proving a challenge but as I unforgivably overlooked his birthday I would like to correct that now:
Rory Gallagher was without question the Stratomaster and then some but not for any technical ability as frankly that means bugger all if its without soul, but rather what he gave freely, from the heart and indeed every pore when on stage.

Rory was also a true Gentleman and you will not find a single person in the world of so-called Rock A’ Boogie to contest this. One day his contribution as an artist will be fully revealed but sadly probably not in my lifetime.

Continue to RIP Rory and thank you for the BBC “In Concert” performance* you gave at the Paris Theatre back in the day and that I was so fortunate to have tickets. I cannot listen to "What In The World" without wet cheeks:

I think the great Jim Armstrong blows Rory into the weeds! Guitar Player Magazine voted Jimmy the 3rd best guitarist in the world after Jimi Hendrix and Frank Zappa and Jim came back to Belfast to play in pubs and, if I remember rightly, work in the Civil Service during the day. With this in mind there isn't much video around of him playing, and nothing that would rate as a classic performance plus there is a lack of blues performances around and in my view it was with the blues that he displayed real soul. However, there was nothing better of a Saturday afternoon in the late 1980s than heading down the town to buy some music and then meeting up with a few mates and wandering into the Limelight where Jim Armstrong and Jim Gilchrist would play the blues. Get them on a good day and jimmy might still have been among the best in the world even then. Those a little older than me saw him in the Pound.

Ropey video and sound but he almost always played Summertime:

Or some more of the same set, not a classic show and not much in the way of the blues maybe but well worth watching:

And for the main event of the evening we are embarking upon a 6-track journey to a “permission” only the most accommodating FLO might sign off:

I only wish I could present these tracks as a seamless mix. Sorry.
