Vinyl Friday

OK its two days late but what the hell!

I’ve been meaning to do this for some time and since first contributing to a BCUK thread called Friday Is Disco Night, hence the attempt to come up with a different title but don’t be put off by it as no format or type of music is excluded.

As for “why a music thread on a stalking forum” all I can say is I’m looking forward to hearing what other members like and in the process being exposed to stuff I’ve not heard before so perhaps others will too. Its also something to 'chill' to after reading another Brexit post!

Resisting the temptation to appear erudite & cool in my choice of track to kick things off I’ve chosen this version of a Ray Davis song as it could have been written for me and is better than the original, IMHO:

Great addition to the forum.

After this was a hit it was the last song played at the Francis Hall disco in Cork on Friday nights for years. It was a duck in the alcohol disco for teenagers and at the end of the night when the start of this tune rang out the floor would empty and then two groups of randomers would form in orderly lines facing each other, arms around shoulders, about 6 feet apart and then under the pretence of Irish dancing would engage in a kicking competition which naturally increased in ferocity as the tune progressed. The bouncers kept a close watch so no punches were allowed, but if two strong lads either side of a small fella could keep his feet up in the air he could kick away to his hearts content until the end of the song, no foul. David Attenborough would have been interested in this ritual.

Good tune.

Forgot to re-post the first track on this thread at the 5-year mark so here’s the whole album:

Still rate “I’m Not Like Everybody Else” much higher than the version from the band that penned it. Which is saying something given it’s the Kinks (Ray Davis).
