A friend was renewing his visitors firearms permit through his sponsor in Leicestershire. However Leicestershire Constabulary have declined to renew for a full year and have suggested one month instead. Surely this does not comply with usual practice?

This has been my experience in the past, although typically they'll issue for slightly longer than the planned stay so there are no issues if, for example, the visitor is delayed leaving the country due to transport/weather/health problems.

The forms I have filled in ask for a entry and exit date so have added 1 day either side to allow for any delays as the people who have come to me have only a certain length of time they could be away so the dates were set.
I shoot all year around like many but I live here lol
Last year I had three chances to stalk as a guest of a friend in Durham
I only knew about the first trip at the time of applying. After 20 plus years of getting visitors permits I had assumed that 12 months was standard procedure. Although they did in fact mislay last years application and i had to delay my trip.To be fair I suppose it is up to the sponsor to indicate to the licensing area that the applicant may be making more than one trip. I have made trips to Scotland based on the visitors permit issued by Durham lasting for 12 months.
