Does that statement include the licencing staff and departments? Pertinent now we pay full costs.

By providing poor service mean more people sell off their guns and give up creating less work for licencing departments therefore requiring less funding and less personnel with the increased licence fees, is this not biting off the hand's that feed you?

It certainly should do.
Without shooting, those folk in the licensing dept wouldn't have jobs.

I don't think the research took account of jobs in firearms licensing. I could be wrong. I will ask.

Mine started just over a year ago took seven months (11 including getting a random shot gun off my certificate)
I acted as referee for a friend two weeks ago and was called within seven days of the application, I don't know how but they seem to have turned it around

We have a member at one of our clubs who has so far been waiting 29 months for a grant!
His interview was 11 months ago and was told there was no concerns with his application.
The last time he was able to contact anyone at cambs licensing unit they weren't sure who/why/what was happening and promised to get back to him ASAP. That was 2 months ago and he's still waiting!

Yeah these numbers are completely meaningless as they don't include all applications and even the rest is a mix of renewals and new applications



My service has been stable around 80% in 4 months on the charts but it's well known locally that new applications have basically stalled and were 9-12 months but are now closer to 18

The npcc figures don't reflect that at all and if you were going to design a figure which would mask the truth this would be it

Application went in 12 weeks + before expiry date. Well., my ticket runs out, (sorry RAN out early November) i have received an extension into the new year. I put in a 1-4-1 way before expiry date due to new rifle was very inaccurate, i have a new rifle waiting to be picked up that replaced the previous one, stalking booked for January, no doubt Christmas break for firearms department, and new year on top. No response from email asking for any updates on what to do with firearms and shotguns start on January. I am prepared to put all into storage just in case.

jb1 I hear your pain….. please read all of this before you all start shooting me down. I fully get that we already pay good money and that we have a right to expect a prompt an efficient level of service in return. The truth however is that we don’t. Firearms is so far down the priority list for Police services that despite what ever campaigning it is likely to remain that way…. Now for the bit I expect flack over…. For some folks like jb1 above … I wish there was an option like you get with your passport. Phone up… make an appointment in the next three days… pay your £150 fast track fee… arrive at your appointment … get the details all done … go get a coffee and come back in an hour and collect your freshly printed new certificate. We have all been in this position at some point…. I don’t relish the thought anymore than the next person of paying for it but there are times where I would have!

And why is firearms licensing low down on thr priority list? Because in terms of public safety there are much greater problems. I just wish they'd tell the politicians.
