Vortex Diamondback

I recently knackered my Meopta scope and was a bit short on cash to replace. I contacted Gregor at Macleods Tain, and ended up getting the above. I am delighted with the quality and clarity. These seem great value, and are sold by folk who know their stuff, will keep you posted.

Also this is third time I have dealt with Macleods, and the service is IMO second to none, landed next day, and the rings I bought fitted like a glove on rifle (old parker hale safari delux) 10 out of 10 for Macleods

Ahhh one has to ask how did you knacker the Meopta?

As for Macleaod's well I have not dealt with them in the last 6 years but have done so before that. In fact I brought 2x Pecar scopes when I last dealt with them.

Edit:- did a quick search on the Vortex and came up with that gun whore Pete Moore who of course the usual glowing report on everything he handles.. he wouldn't get more freebies if he wrote a factual report now would he?.

Found a couple more reviews on American sites. One all pro the Vortex and one that was so-so.. his advice is to check for distortion around the edge of the field of view. The Vortex warranty in the US sounds very good how that relates to us poor relations in the UK has yet to be determined of course.

We look forward to you report after using it for a while .

It seemed to fog, and loose a bit of clarity after the rifle had come off my shoulder onto some rocks, I am going to get in touch with Marchwood, to see if there i any hope for her.
I did see the not so pro Vortex review, but the diamondback seemed to come out well, thats if it was the same.

Will give it the benefit of the doubt, next weekend

I had a Meopta 7x50 made in 2003. It fogged up and looking on the inside of there was what appeared to be condensation on the body which turned out to be oil.
This was a couple of years ago.
I contacted John at Marchwood for advice as there is a 10 year warranty and he advised to return it to them.
Marchwood then returned it to Meopta and I got a new scope 2 months later with a fresh 10 year warranty.
I was very pleased to get a new replacement.
If it is out of warranty, Action Optics:The Binocular & Telescope Repair Specialist who also sells new models repair them.

I've been talking up Vortex around these parts for a long time! I have been using a Diamondback 3-9x40 on my 17 HMR for a year or so and I am delighted with it, so much so it's now getting promoted onto my 6.5x55, my main stalking rifle. The clarity and light gathering is immense for the price. The warranty is apparently bombproof, but despite some quite serious abuse on a "truck gun" I've not been close to needing to use it.

Did you not think of claiming on your house insurance?

To be honest it would not occur to me to do that. one was always taught that claiming was a last resort. Yeah I know oldtimers won't change.

Not sure if ours covers stuff like that.. Will have to ask.

Never thought of house insurance, I am getting it sent back to marchwood, so will see how it goes.
I set the vortex up last night & was very pleased, heres hoping for a christening on Sat

I have used the scope on a couple of occasions. It has retained it;s set up, clear in the grey horrible mornings we have been erved up. The clarity seems excllent & you can see individual rain drops through it - well chuffed for a couple of hundred:)

Update on the meopta, it seems fine off the rifle, may jut be my eyes, and the setting with it being a fixed scope!!!!! Will send to Marchwood for a butchers
