Wartime kitchen garden

I jumped around the video and it seems like an interesting watch, will have to watch an hour or so in the coming evenings. I know everyone doesn't have access to gardens or outdoor spaces but the thought of everyone growing their own or just contributing their kitchen scraps to a compost heap / pig feed it would make society that little more self sufficient.

Very much in the vain of my old feller
At 92 yrs he was still using a horse drawn plough even though there was a MF sitting in the barn.
Old school gardener's were well worth the salt.

The apple, and pear, drying was also done in France in parts of the Loire Valley but whole and then pressed flat. Pommes (and poires) tapees. The things apparently were popular with sea voyagers. Cored then dried whole and then hammered or, in a special press, pressed flat. To rehydrate them you stew them in red wine. They are quite nice. But as with many things such as oysters and salmon what was once a cheap foodstuff has become expensive.

Illegal now. And has been for some many years. Carries the risk of transferring foot and mouth or swine fever from undercooked imported meat that might carry these viruses to the UK herd.
