Washing Your Boresnake.

I realise that this may cause some hilarity but do people was their bore snakes ? I've been using mine for years but just thought it might be benefit from a wash. If so how and how frequently ?

To be honest I have not washed mine but I only knock the loose stuff out the barrel with them anyway.
But I do recall people saying they put them through the washing machine. I suppose how often depends on how mucky

Yes every day or it smells and bits start to drop off.

Seriously though while I don't use a bore snake all cleaning tools need to be cleaned themselves on occasion or you will be introducing dirt and grit into what you are trying to clean.

If that isn't a euphemism for something illegal, I'd use brake cleaner from Halfords or similar.

I wash my 12g one every 6 months, just a bit of washing up liquid / hot water in the sink, leave to soak, give it a hand wash and leave to dry.

But seriously, twice a year or when it looks grubby -in the washing machine with the ‘special’ washing liquid she keep in for her delicates....

Correct.......wondered why l couldn’t nail it down to a precise date......you could say the old bore snake doesn’t get used very much now if at all........I’ll wait until Christmas to see if anything stirs......but l certainly would never throw it in the washing machine.

You should always wash it if you have put it through someone else's barrel as you never know what it could be contaminated with !

I ultrasonic wash all my bore / chamber brushes now and again and the first sign of them folding in on themselves that are confined to the bin,
