Waterproofs

Hi All,
Just looking to see what people use / would recommend / would avoid in terms of waterproof jackets and overtrousers.
I’m planning on investing in a truly waterproof set that will withstand hours sitting in a downpour.
My research keeps pointing me to offshore sailing gear, which is expensive and possibly noisy. On the cheaper side, Regatta seem to have decent offerings.
Your thoughts please…!

I use army issue German flecktarn waterproofs, they dont let anything through.

The trousers come with braces too.

Not always the quietest but for fully waterproof most things aren't.

Plenty of other military ones not in camo.

I got mine for about £50 for the top and bottoms, unissued.

Any idea where you got the unissued ones from? Can only find used on line

Ive had two sets, the first set I've had for years and years and they were unissued, I can't remember where from but it was online. These have been kept tidy(ish) as I use them on the boat (great on the canal when driving in a absolute downpour).

The ones I have for shooting and on the motorcycle were bought 'used' but but you'd never know (high grade), if I had to buy another set I'd definitely still buy 'used' from a seller that grades the quality of their stock.

Looks like the jackets have gone up a bit in price now but the bottoms are sub-£30.

If I find the email receipt for the unissued I will let you know.

Guy Cotton make proper waterproof gear. Not breathable, fancy or flexible but completely waterproof. Used on fishing boats, quite tough and reasonably priced.

Have a look at Stoney Creek Tundra, by for the best ive found for the balance of breathability ant outright waterproofing.
You don't need to wear much underneath if you run a bit hot as I do.
1.5 hours in a bog with driving Stornaway rain in the aim waiting for a stag to stand and was perfectly dry.

Paramo is very good but leaks where your roe sack and rifle sling sit on the coat.
Kuiu very good but not keen on the wrists of the yukon

Farmers stuff if you want fully waterproof and it’s for sitting, if your moving there always seems a pay off between full waterproof and wearable

Rubber water proof trousers from Amazon

Fairly quite to walk in too.

For sitting out, or slow movement, I second the German Flecktarn. Or in winter Rivers West (if you can still get it).

From now until atleast March I’ll be in a pair of Kaiwaka Bib and brace almost every day. Truly waterproof and very hard wearing, these are on year 2 of almost daily wear through the winter months on the farm. Even when doing jobs like electric fencing in turnips in the ****ing rain they’ve never let anything in. They are a bit too noisy to stalk in, but would be ideal for sitting out. Jacket is also excellent

These sound like something I could use for fishing.

Me and the missus invested in Kaiwaka coat and over trousers a few years ago on the recommendation of our farm vet. We do sheep on our smallholding. best money we spent. Not breathable of course, but 100% waterproof.

Interestingly, I've been picking up today in Norfolk. Torrential rain all day long. The gun bus was full of people bemoaning their very expensive kit leaking badly.
