Is that the same as a Certificate of Competence (CoC)? Get a certificate of competence or licence to slaughter or kill animals

It was a genuine question- I’m not looking to exploit the system but was looking for clarity not patronising. SD is the wrong place for that of course 🤣

Happy to go down the WATOK route if required, but if it’s not then why should I go though that (the cost wouldn’t cover the APHA vet’s fees to make the site visit and assessment so it’s a cost to the taxpayer for a start. Plus, do I need assessment on every potential farm I could be called out to? I repeat, nothing live arrives on site).

So, back to my OP (and still a very genuine question but) - without WATOK (or CoC) can I kill livestock, on farm, not for human consumption, not restrained, not in an immediate emergency euthanasia situation?

If you can point me in the direction of the clear guidance on this I would be very grateful.
go through the proper channels, find out what’s required to what level you need and get trained up, certificated and most important - not knowing what you’ve done in the past, get experience - humane dispatch is not what a lot of guys on here think it is - it’s not for the faint hearted, bit of paper will say you can do it, but you need to be able to do it
good luck whatever road you choose

Maybe take up crosswords because I really don't think your going to be able to cope with this killing game 🤣🤣

So I'll take that as a "no, I can't point you in the direction of clear guidance for the scenario you asked about [but I'm going to maintain there is no grey area, answer a different question to the one you asked and maintain I'm an expert on the matter]".

Yep, got it. Thanks for your help...

I'm on that route too. Just thought there may be some SD members who'd been in similar situation and could point me in the direction of some clear guidance that I'd missed. But we're onto page 2 and no further forward so it obviously isn't straightforward.

I've had a call in with APHA since last week, spoken to BHSA (who stated nothing required but haven't yet provided anything to substantiate that, hence, following up with APHA to be 100%). As I stated up front, I want to do this by the book for obvious reasons.

And yep, fully understand your point on humane dispatch. I work on a farm so it's not unfamiliar territory - it's not a pleasant task and can be quite difficult, particularly when horses and owners are involved.
