Sadly we lost our Doberman a couple of weeks ago, aged 9.

After a bit of debate around the merits of a big dog, I decided I was happier having one. I feel better when I go away for work or night shooting knowing that when Mrs .308 goes out to do late checks in the dark she doesn’t have to worry about who is lurking about the place. Default setting is let the dog out then go and investigate.

So today we collected the new pup, Antje (Anya). She is Doberman x Dutch Herder and so far looks to have inherited the Velcro nature of mum (Doberman) and thoughtful intelligence of dad ( Dutch Herder).

Back to a lot of hand feeding and training for me!

Our two Borders... a good tip for a good dog photo is to get low with the camera..

This dog was something special. She came to stalking later in life and needed total retraining. She took to it like a duck to water and was my constant companion. She even managed to pass the UKDTR test, as far as I know the only lurcher to do so, and we did tracking call outs together. I still have her but at 14 she doesn't want to come out any more. It's sad they get old. I miss her already and she's not even gone yet.

Thanks for the responses to my request for a mate for our gal, Mouse. As you can see a successful date was set up (black lab called Rogan) and these beauties arrived a couple of days ago. I'll put something in the classifieds when the time is right.

Picked up this little 8 week old chap from Andy at Grugiar Gundogs yesterday. He slept all the way back from Snowdonia to Gloucestershire!

Already besotted with my wife, I’ll be trading my side of the bed for the crate in no time I’m sure
