Weimeraner pup

Good afternoon all. I have just got a Weimaraner puppy this morning. She is 8 weeks old. Looking to have her come out stalking with me and driven shoots. Any tips, hints or reference’s to books would be most helpful.

Guy Wallace has a couple of books and a very no nonsense attitude to training, it doesn't really matter which book you buy, his instructions don't change.

Lovely Pup, in my experience from training my own Weim and making a few mistakes. Concentrate on heel work from early on. Mine is a great indicator and knows what he’s doing but he’s so keen To locate deer he tends to want to push on all the time.

I have 5 and work them all. I've had them for 30 years I'd say stick to the heal work and deer only for at least 2 years. Then try her on game. She will do everything you want but keep her calm and quiet as long as possible. But the deer work starts now, let her smell the blood, give her a leg to hold even drag a skin and get her to follow it. But stick to deer first. I know it's hard because you want to get them out but it will pay in the long run. They are head strong and people dogs so she'll make a great companion enjoy.
