Well…I tried…

I’m no tree hugging looney, but I like to think I do consider the environment in a pragmatic and sensible manner….so today, I need to do a job in an outbuilding, and there are 2 tennis ball sized wasp bikes about 6ft apart…I recognise that wasps do a lot for pollination yet they get a bad name compared to bees…so I thought, I’ll leave them be and work around them…

One of the jobs was drilling into the concrete about a foot away from one of the bikes…I tried 3 times and each time found my self surrounded by the start of swarming wasps….so each time I backed away…they have not stung me yet, despite annoying them…

The job is postponed for now but to be fair I’m considering wiping out the two nests…seems a shame but I can’t think of anything else for it…

At least I tried I guess!

I don’t have much confidence I’d be able to relocate them without multiple stings! 😂

You might as well do them in. If they haven't stung you by now, they must be sterile or summat.

It's the vibration that upset them. I once had a nest in a row of slatted compost bins where I used to tipped my grass clippings. They come out to investigate when I emptied the grass box but never bothered me. Then one day I needed to lift one of the slats in the bin next to the nest. It wouldn't budge so I kicked it. The wasps came storming out in a fury and I was stung about four times before I got to the house.
They got the powder after that.

We had a nest in our caravan bin likkle baarstards, opened the front bin door gingerly.
Then gave them the full pressure washer, worked a treat.
Also used Rentokill,s Raid spray on 2 nests awesome stuff but wear a mask 😷 👌

Do it later in the year Gixer

Live and let live mate

I read somewhere that WD40 will make them abandon the nest…not sure how true it is…it’s a shame I need to get the job done as otherwise I would leave them alone…

Create some smoke with dry pine needles or the same. They have the same reaction as bees and you may get away with drilling with them distracted.
You are most right in leaving them.... they have a very bad and quite undeserved reputation
