Welsh Deer

Good evening all , this is a question for the Welsh stalkers mainly, I have been stalking deer in the Carmarthenshire areas for the past 13 years and I have only ever seen fallow . I have seen trail cam footage with muntjac but I have never witnessed it with these eyes, I have also been told that there are Roe about but again, these eyes have never witnessed it . So the question my fellow stalkers is , have any of you seen with your eyes Roe or muntjac in the Carmarthenshire area 😀👍🏻 Cheers Craig

good evening,i was part of a control release in the mid/late 1980,s. where we captured two roe and five roe does and they were transported and released onto a very large private estate in carmarthenshire. they were tagged and radio collared. they were wiped out in six weeks ! so no i dont think you will see roe down that way .poaching is still rife according to my friend <he is the butler at the big estate> but i really hope you see both muntjac and roe eventually.

Firearms ownership Is quite high in Wales, at least 5 firearms licensed owners within 100 yds. of my house, all farms are quite small so deer management is hard to achieve , unfortunately it is every one for themselves, deer will be shot when seen.

There are roe and muntjac in Carmarthenshire and yes I have seen them. The problem is that they are shot at night as soon as they appear so they struggle to get a foothold. The same goes for the red deer we see a few crossing the farm but they never last long.

I recently visited a man in Merthyr who was adamant there were Roe in the area to the West of the area in the hills

It would be great if there were more deer in wales as I want to move to the Worcestershire/ Herefordshire/ Shropshire/ Powys area and buy another small holding and having deer in the vicinity would be great.

I know that there are deer in most of those counties but nothing like having them on your doorstep!!

There were sika deer in the Teifi Marshes in Ceredigion but alas they never gained a critical level to be able to spread....and when they did.....:(

"Ifor Williams" has tried on numerous occasions to reintroduce them but alas they all meet the same fate
