Wanted: Western Highlands get-away suggestions for April

The last few years in a row myself and a group of blokes like to disappear off up to the Western Highlands for a week on a sea/loch fishing. We are very fond of the area in and around Oban, Loch Etive, Loch Fyne, Kyles of Bute, Loch Awe and The Trossachs so quite a large area! Normally we'd book a place called The Claddie to get a sense of what we're after. We were a bit slow booking with everything going on and it's full for 2020! Hoping for a week in April, what recommendations do you lot have?

The list of why we like The Claddie so much is as follows, the more that your recommendation matches the better!
  • Isolated
  • Trout river on the property
  • Good rabbit numbers to shoot
  • Great fishing on the loch
  • Boat rental
  • Not a huge drive to local towns for meals out etc
  • The views
  • Fishing/shooting rights included with the rental
  • Can suit 6 guys with plenty of space

Where have you blokes been?

Cheers

What makes you think the post-Christmas /New Year Covid Lockdown will have lifted by then, it was firmly in place last spring, remember? 🤔😷

Not that many places on the West with high numbers of rabbits, IME, but that may be only my experience, though the sandy areas on the western isles do, eg bits of the Uists, Islay, etc. I think you may find you are off season for most shooting in April in Scotland though, just saying.

Nice wish list, all the same!

It's a somewhat moot thread now as we are booking in with The Claddie in April! Can't live not making future experience plans because some boogey man might get me, have to make plans on the assumption it will be possible :)

It isn't a wish list, but that is what The Claddie offers! Can't wait to get back there

Are there many rabbits there, then? Great if so.

Wasnt aware of the nearby towns, unless you mean Kilfinnan (pop. 12) or Kames, but you could always take the boat across to the delights of Tarbert!

Yep! Sandy soils like you say. Plenty of places to eat and drink along the coast of Loch Fyne. Never said nearby, but not a huge drive. All things being relative, an hour one way isn't that bad

I can get you sorted if need be, we have a large Victorian villa all with en suites near Dunoon
It’s not the best time of year for fishing or stalking but I’m sure we can provide some entertainment
We have clay shooting on offer too.

I am generally wholly supportive of our Scottish tourist trade but please for your own sake or others reading this post avoid LHH Scotland, (Large Holiday Homes Scotland) based in Dingwall.

Along with many others we were stung to the tune over over 1K when they cancelled and then refused to refund or reschedule our holiday during the Spring.

We had to commence Court proceedings before getting our funds back.

There are a plethora of articles written in the Scotsman newspaper about their less than ethical business practices and they are currently actively under investigation by Highland Council Trading Standards and the Competition and Marketing Authority.

Trust Pilot reviews are also scathing.

They are still trading and advertising properties throughout the Highlands.

Avoid like the plague.
