What 12b fox cartridge?

Like most things with a shotgun, make sure they are well within range 25yds then a good old 1 to 1 1/8oz of 5 or 6 will do the job provided you hit them in the vitals which for a fox equals head and neck. Smaller shot probably hits harder as you have a much denser pattern. Have shot a few foxes with shotgun on game drives and the above has done the job.

If you are specifically loading for foxes the above advice on heavier loads is all good.

Does any body use a sighting device such as a red dot or scope on a tightly choked heavily loaded shotgun for foxes, in the same vein as the Americans use for turkeys?

I use Mirage MAGNUM 76, 3" 50 Gramme number 3.. i bought 1000 10 years ago and would love to know what these would cost now? I was at the geese last week and they were dropping like flies whilst the Buffalo lads were struggling.

I've tried some of these extended chokes and big loads in 3.5mags as well as hevishot etc.
but when it comes down to it with price etc. I stick to buffalo 3's and 22-250 for longer shots!!!!
Never used a sight
if at dens I use 32g 5's for close in.

I have shot many a fox with 42g BB's, an old wildfowling catridge.
I also have shot many with Winchester ZZ's 36g

36 grams BBs does it for me, I tend to keep the range down if possible to 25 yards. They don't tend to get up :)

as a matter of interest shot one this morning,in a snare with 36 g of no 1 at 35 yards was dead as a dodo with one shot

Talking about drives loaded up for the birds have you ever come across the nugget taking a shot at a fox to see it pepperd running off,not many drives are loaded up for the job seen it never done it.Hares with light shot running away ass shot.stick with 3 or lower reasonable humane range.

i take it these are lead free geese cartridges then:D

Anything 3" in larger shot size like 1's or bb's is lethal. AAA has a very thin pattern at 30 yards from standard 32g loads but bb's in 36g does say hello. 50g 3" though has that extra 14g of happiness.

B&P 63 gram , 3 1/2" magnums No 4 s if you have an Extrema... fox dont like them .. take a while to see if you have got him or not , you have to wait till the dust settles and the smoke clears, and you get yourself picked up again.. other than that they do the job..

lyvale express super game 42 grm no. 3 are ideal for 2 3/4 " chambered guns, about a £10 a box

Are these for magnum-proofed 2 3/4" chambers?

I ask only because my 2 3/4" chambered guns are both the standard 3 1/4 ton (900Kg) proof, and as far as I'm aware the biggest load with that service-pressure is 1 1/4oz or 36g.

was in tenbury gun shop and they had some 2 3/4" express 42g 1s 8 quid a box . Going out to try a shot now . Will have to have a look at my franchie and see what the proof presure is .

Shoot quite a few with the shotgun in a year I normally use gamebore mammoth 3 inch 50 gram or fiochi 3 inch 53 grams both a good catridge, or if I'm using my old auto the buffalos do the trick aswell.
