And yet, based on the majority opinion expressed on here, Europe is a horriyfing cultural wasteland that we need to get away from as quickly as possible!
I never cease to be amazed (and ashamed) at how much cleaner, tidier and better cared for Dutch towns are than our own. Every time I go to visit my inlaws, I come away wondering what on earth has lead to the UK having such a generally appalling attitude to litter.
It's also not new - I vividly remember being utterly baffled when I first started coming to the UK in the 90s. Everything seemed so dirty and grubby, with rubbish everywhere. Nothing like what I'd been lead to expect - more like Nairobi than the idealised green and pleasant land I expected!
Couldn't agree more, we live in a dustbin.....I have lived abroad, Europe, Africa & Asia and travelled extensively...while Africa & Asia are nothing to write home about in terms of litter, Much of Europe is most certainly cleaner, tidier and has an distinctly apparent, far more serious approach in how children are brought up and the result seems to be, with a more responsible attitude to what's right & what's wrong, what's acceptable behaviour and what isn't.
How you change this is probably beyond me at my time of life, but I know my mother refused to let me be treated as a child in the hospital in Sheffield because it was dirty.
This doesn't mean by the way, I want to be tied to European politicians and legislated by Brussels, but it does mean that in general, we Britons should take a long hard look at our behaviour and correct what is wrong. Should be easy, but I know it won't happen.
Disgraceful.
