What do you carry? Bino harness edition

So I know this topic has been done before, and I’m not one to flog a dead horse. However this is a variation on a theme.

I have been toying with the idea of a bino harness for quite some time. Everyone seems to use them in the states, and they seem to be growing in popularity over in the UK. I like to keep my kit minimalistic and absolutely hate carrying a whole bunch of things in my pockets as I’m always losing them.

This weekend at the shooting show I took the plunge and bought an Alaska Guide Creations harness. After doing a lot of research into the design of different brands I settled on this being the best option for me. Front opening so I can use it with one hand, the possibility of adding extra pouches and a very comfortable strap. The ergonomics as a whole just worked for me.

So my question to all you other bino harness users is, what do you carry in it?

I carry:
• Binos or substitute it with my thermal when I’m foxing.
• Wind checker.
• Knife
• Phone

Binos and thermal.
then spare glasses, spare folding knife, doesn’t take up much room. And gloves.
I am a great fan of it because it means the kit is in one place so grab and go, rather than, where the hell did put it. They are not for everyone but I wouldn’t go back to stuffing my binos in my coat.

All other kit is carried in my Roesack. So as long as I have both, then all I need to forget is my sticks or my rifle. And, yes, I have done that cos I is stoopid .

Bold statement, if you don't mind my saying so.

I am aware of two folk (one an off-duty Doctor) who bled to death for lack of a tourniquet.

I carry one in the truck and one in my chainsaw box - best money I ever wasted.

£6.99 on Ebay or at ex-military stores.






If you are foolish enough to waste (buy two - you know it makes sense) almost £15 to save a life (which may even be yours), do keep up to speck on how to apply the damn things.

I know we are going off topic but the tourniquet in the glove box is not the best place. I had one of the lads at work showing off his tourniquet last year. It was sealed in the factory wrapper. Imagine trying to take off the factory plastic wrapper covered in slippy blood when it comes to needing it. It would be a complete hindrance.

If you have gone to the trouble of getting one have it accessible and that means easy to access with one hand and quickly. An arterial bleed will kill you in around 3 minutes unless action is taken. Recognise the difference between a cat bleed and just a bad bleed as well because to the use of a tourniquet can be dangerous.

Practice applying them as well. They need a lot of pressure to actually cut off the circulation and cause a lot of pain. I always like to remember the phrase “If it’s not hurting it’s not working”.

I can’t say I have personal experience of this but have seen on a few forums etc that there are now fake CAT tourniquets doing the rounds. I’d be wary of buying one off eBay, unless it’s from a recognised surplus store. I’d rather spend the money and get one that I know will work, should the need arise.

Caveat bleedor, or something like that…!
