If there is an "average DH"

Just on deer hunting access....NOT guns/ammo/fuel and other add ons but for the permission costs only and how many times a year for a total of?
I ask as I have no idea whatsoever.

Average cost of a guided stalk is around £85 on the females or youngsters.

Then depends how much you go:)

I warrant days out as im not really a social butterfly, dont really drink, have no fashion sense and cos im worth it:lol:

And on top of that 85 quid is the meat costs,I completely forgot about that part of it.
And stags? Are they rated gold silver bronze in costs ?

I rarely take a beast from a guided or cull day as I have my own two syndicates that I harvest enough meat for the table. Meat can be bought on a guided day though at dealer rates which is around a pound a £.

Ive never taken a trophy day as I have always wanted the experience foremost to gleen knowledge from experienced folk and to see other ground rather than put something on the wall.

One day maybe.

About 25% ore than is sensible based on their income :D

Difficult to say, some people pay to shoot deer, some people pay nothing to shoot deer, some people get paid to shoot deer.

But as a rough guide a typical syndicate place in Scotland in commercial forestry is I would think just less than a grand a year. A syndicate place in England (rare has hens teeth and never advertised) can be several times that..but not always.

But saying the ‘ average stalker’ is in a Scottish forestry syndicate and has a few days with a guide as well, maybe for different species or because that is much closer to home, then a couple of thousand £ per year?

Well, I have my first stalk next week, so after a FAC falls through the letter box it will be rifle/scope/moderator/binos/sticks/clothing/knives etc so I guess my "start up" costs will be substantial!!!, but like everything I do in life ..........go hard or go home, we aren't around for a second go.

time you pay syndicate fuel and band b ect id say £3000 / £4000 a year more by some less by others

A Highland stag will cost around £500 quid but thats a full day on the hill with a stalker and most likely a ghillie as well
plus transport.
Not something you are going to do that often but a lot of
People have a day or couple of days making a holiday of it

For info:

On a good commercial estate in the Highlands (say, Sutherland) I’d guess at a week on the hinds .. Mon - Fri,
09.00-15.30hrs will cost at least £1000/£200 approx per beast. A calf may also be taken FOC if with a hind.
A ‘follower’ is regarded as a hind and should it be allowed to be taken, is charged as a hind.

On estates my friends and I have shot, we at least averaged two hinds a day, often (a lot) more.
But that depends on how well/much the head stalker trusts you. Usually not at all the first time you visit their estate, and what your shooting was like, whether you helped in the larder, also, how well you ‘tipped’!
Tips? A hidden extra! - A secret thing depending on how things went...info few are willing to share.

Accommodation, fuel, booze, all other self catering extras will likely add another £350-500 per head per week.
Depends how far you have to travel, alone or with friends and how frugal you want to be. My friends and I should be, but hell, it’s a week with the boys away!, so we weren’t frugal at all and enjoyed many years on several very large estates through late November-December taking a lot of hinds and calves.

All said and done, we enjoyed a staggeringly good time each annual visit and on one visit in our second year, between us shot 43 hinds and eight calves. That was one time. After that, each week, we shot on average ten plus calves, occasionally more. Most were reds, but some sika were shot too.
When we first went, costs for shooting hinds was much much less than now. We last on a commercial estate in December 2013.
Since then, the estate we shot on for six years running has been sold.

That was then....now we’re just happy with our own ground.

As stated above, there shall be a lot of variation.
From those who involved with does and hinds who are likely to be into hundreds of pounds per year.
To those involved with cull stags, who may be heading towards £1,000 per year.
And then for trophy stags, those are likely to be several thousands of pounds per year.
In all cases you would be looking at circa £1 per lb cost for the venison itself
Taking all that into consideration my best guess for the average annual cost would be £564.73

Lol

I have never paid anyone to go stalking, I have a couple of permissions who have no interest in Venison so it’s all mine. However I only shoot about 15-20 beasts a year, mainly Roe, but we do have a very good number of Red here also, I have grassed one Hind so far this year.

Unfortunately the Fallow, which there are a huge number of in South Devon, have not wandered onto my ground..........Yet!

I have a half gun on a game shoot, that is all I pay for, and I beat/pick up on a couple of shoots.

As stated before the average cost of a syndicate place in forestry in Scotland is £1000. I am in a very small syndicate and can have upto ten weeks stalking each year keeping in all venison. That works out at £100 a week at least 10 outings a week. The diesel costs me more than my stalking. If I want I can take some carcasses to the game dealer and virtually cover my costs. Good value I think

I'm still paying for guided stalks. At £150 a time, which is a morning or evening session.
But there are no charges per head. Estate rifle provided if you require.
And buy the meat and dealer rate.
