What is the best way to "post" a Red Stag head

I had an 11 pointer Stag head cleaned and offered it for sale on Ebay.

The auction ends today and it is more than likely I will have to post it to the purchaser.

Anyone got recommendations on how to package it up for safe transfer via Royal Mail etc?

Put tennis balls or similar on the points, bubble wrap, put it in a plastic sack, wrap with tape and put another bag over the lot if required, you should end up with a triangular package with no pointy bits sticking out

Caveat venditor 😉

Id be thinking twice before offering to post next time. But how about one of the large strong card boxes removal firms use with plenty of polystyrene beads/ newspaper etc to fill around?

You need to ensure you charge the right freight rate or it will eat your profits

I’d get a big piece of cardboard from ikea furniture/other, and after bubble wrapping etc, fold it over and around, then duct tape.

Postage will likely be around £25 I imagine

Get a large, sturdy cardboard box from your local safe storage facility or removal firm. Wrap the skull in bubble wrap and cut up some old hosepipe or pipe insulation to cover the points of the horns. Fill box with rolled up newspaper and post.

I have a large cardboard box so am planning to wrap and put the skull inside a smaller box and then into the large box to hopefully afford some extra protection from being chucked around a delivery van.

Good call on the hosepipe!

Earlier this year I posted some red antlers of a fair sized stag from the NW where I live, down to the s coast where they do.

My top tips:
- however big a box you think you need, you need a bigger one
- antler tips are remarkably adept at poking through cardboard
- you will be amazed at quite how much padding is required to fill in all the nooks and crannies
- Read the maximum permitted dimension sizes on courier websites very carefully.....
- .....then disregard them, which is what Evri did when I tried to use them. Despite having read, measured, then read & measured again.
- be ready to lose the will to live
- decide never to try & post big antlers ever again.

Good luck!

A good way to protect the points (and stop them puncturing the packaging) is to cut small sections of hose pipe and stick them on each tine, I gave up posting stags as it’s a monumental ballache, buyer collect only for me
