This is a follow on to to a previous post that caused a little controversy . I consider myself pretty good at ageing red stags and I’m fortunate enough to be able to manage a few different areas in the lakes with the intention of producing quality deer which seams to be working . So the original post a guy got it wrong and culled a you g stag thinking it was old and going back which really didn’t matter due to the circumstances of the ground he was stalking , fair play to him for posting it showed that he was keen to learn as should everybody who has a genuine interest in deer management. Group member Baguio was one of the first to reply granted quite bluntly saying he got the age of said stag wrong and offered via pm to send a guide to ageing red stags produced by himself and other on Norfolk red deer which again in my eyes a fair play and a honest thing to do . There was an awful amount of negative comments posted towards Baguio about the way he worded his post , now in my eyes everyday is a school day and no one no matter how experienced they are is to old to learn so I pmd him and today via email I received his guide to ageing red stags which is easy to follow and no doubt educational in his email he made a point saying that I was the only person who showed any interest which strikes me as bizarre considering the amount of posts the thread generated . I will recommend anyone with an interest in ageing red deer to pm him and I’m pretty sure he will email you the documents and slide show . In the mean time maybe some of the other guys could post any pics or knowledge they have as to me ageing reds is a really interesting subject
, maybe even go as far as a guide to southern , midland , north , southern Scotland and northern Scotland reds so members can get an idea on how genetics and feeding etc effects red deer country wide . I’m not one for posting much on here but do read the odd thread on subjects that I find interesting yet I find more and more posts nit picking and pettiness let be honest we kill deer we by the very nature of that we should be fairly thick skinned let’s stop all the crap and get back on track by doing our best to help others learn about why we manage deer
