What Scope Mounts?

I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction please.

Until recently I was using a Hawk Vantage 4-16x50 on my Tikka .17hmr.
It is no longer holding zero, so I was going to change the scope for a Leupold 3-9x40 which was gifted to me some time ago, but it has no mounts. I have assumed that the Leupold is a better class of scope than the Hawk Vantage, so all in all, it will be better on top the Tikka.

What mounts would I need or would the Hawk ones do the job?

Thanks for your help.

Assuming that the tube diameters are the same and is it's only a .17hmr with negligible recoil there's no reason to change rings other than the gap between the objective lens and the barrel will be approximately 5mm greater.
Tier One produce excellent quality rings but they are expensive. In this instance if you were to change the rings I would look at using Sportsmatch which are reasonable quality and relatively inexpensive (also British).

Hawke are a copy of the sportsmatch, they're not the best mounts to be fair. The soft padding they have on them can be a pain in the arse when centering your scope.

Sportsmatch can be picked up cheap enough but for a good mount for a rimfire or air rifle BKL are hard to beat.

I use them on my rifles but as mentioned above, if it was centrefire then Tier One are a great shout along with a plethora of other grade A brands.

Sportsmatch on both of my rimfires. Excellent quality and won’t break the bank. I torque the bases to 35 in/lbs and rings to 17 in/lbs. when I’ve removed the rings there is no marking to the tube whatsoever and there’s been no loss of zero.

If the hawke ones fit your tube and allow enough room between barrel and scope, i don't see the issue in using them. I have hawke mounts on my .22wmr with no issues at all.

These stupid soft glued-on liners can be easily removed using a solvent like white spirit.

As said Sportsmatch good enough and a good choice of sizes for rimfire.

Yes they can be, I've took them out before, that said that's not the only issue with hawke mounts. One of the reasons the pad is installed is because of the crap tolerances that these mounts can have. Also the threads can be an issue with being cut poorly. I have in the past had OK hawke mounts and some crap, I've never bought any personally but the ones I've had have come with scopes I've bought.

Have a look on the Uttings website. They have good list of Leupold scopes some of which are discontinued or not available and all the specifications are on it.

This is the closest, Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9x40 it states its a 1" tube in the write up and 25mm in the spec list.

I just got the end cap off and it is a Leupold VX Freedom Rimfire 3-9x40

If you have any doubts about the sportsmatch mounts size and model, email them they will reply very promptly (in my experience).

David.
