Double four, ask yourself this, where you intend to shoot this rifle, do you really need a mod?

Cut barrel to 18" and fit the biggest moderator you can buy. Add a nightfarce 84-160x96 with the tactical mill reticle and for heavens sake, ditch the walnut. Fibreglass/composite is the way forward. Then you are all set up to snipe deer in the next county as long as you remember your ghillie suit and dragbag. Me, I'd leave it just as is. A beautiful rifle with a good cartridge and an excellent scope. Jealous not...... oh alright alot 
And if you do may I have 1st dibs on the mounts and rings please.

My heart says leave it alone, but I know if it were mine it would be fit a mod, or not use it.
If I had land that was not noise sensitive I'd not have a mod on any of mine.
As it is they all wear a mod, at best I can shoot the Hornet without in winter time when not so many people about.
Scopes should all be small and neat with just enough mag to do the job, variable if you have to, only two of mine
have a variable, a 3-9x36 on the hornet, a 2.5-8x36 on the 7.62x39, the rest fixed power, 4x36 on a .22lr and 10x42 on the .223.

Well I don't really need a mod as 75% of where It will be used is on my own land but the other 25% is invites and to be honest I don't think they would be bothered so it isn't really a problem.
I suppose if I ever wanted to join a syndicate on fc land then it may become an issue but not right now.

What should you do? Sell it to me, then you won't have that dilema any more. I'm sure I could find you a rifle, fit it with a big scope on Optilics and slap a large moderator on it, if that's the kind of setup you like.

Is it a tool for stalking or an ornament to be polished ? put a Mod on it and leave the scope if it suits the shooting you do. But thats just my view

spend the money you would spend on a mod and screw cut on a nice pair of digital ear plugs
or buy a pair of cheap foam ones and book a day on the stags in October!!

Bewsher I don't need a pair of plugs cos im deaf in one ear anyway so I could maybe there's a saving to be had there and as for the stags well it was stags that paid for it in the first place !

Your head must be spinning with dilemma's with the amount of ordinance you have amassed you older wazzock and I doubt roedinator will talk to me now he knows I know you !!!!

If it already shoots 'softly' you will get away with a small, very lightweight mod. Just enough to prevent hearing damage and take what little flip there is out the recoil.
as for the scope as has been said already 6 is where a variable is normally left for walking about, sometimes even lower if its possible. 200yd and beyond easily achievable with a 6 power, good magnification off stick or when the lean is not the best, as you don't see the wobble quite as much, its there though!
The weight and balance must be excellent as is and you can always reach for the howitzer when needed for everything else beyond what you think this will do.
For my money, and having used one for a few months now, one of these is all that I would pop on. Look at the weight of them. The ASE UTRA SL5 I used to have was over 400grms. The wee compact should be hardly noticeable when carrying...

I have a Tikka M690 in 6.5x55, bought off an old boy retiring from stalking. Was his dream rifle (bedded action & trigger job) and he only sold it to me if I promised not to cut it for a mod. The classic lines and wood are a dream and it handles & points like my best shotgun. I just thought he was an old boy who knew nothing about the new fangled ways of shooting and why wouldn't anyone have the latest technology. I've shot with this rifle for a year now and never had any problem with it not having a mod. It always gets a comment in the field/range about its classic lines. My 308 & 243 have had the barrels chopped and mods on and don't handle anywhere as nice. Deer/foxes don't seem to mind - the last roe doe I shot with it had a buck alongside her and he didn't leg it as soon as she went down - in fact he came back for a look (shame he wasn't in season).
Don't butcher it - enjoy it as a classic rifle.
