What size of Burco boiler?

I am keen to try the Burco boiler option for boiling out heads. What size do I buy? 20litre? So a Burco boiler is usually used for tea making etc.? Right? And I just dedicate one to head boiling? Just forget about the spigot? I can put it outdoors and undercover. Please advise.

Unless you’re doing reds I wouldn’t bother as you need the really big ones, they take a while to heat and cost a fortune to run. I’d just get camp stove or gas ring and a decent sized pot which will do for all other U.K. species.

An electric hot plate and an extension cord and an 18L pot from Asda did my first few Muntjac and Roe. I still use the pot but now have a gas BBQ with an external ring so now just use that.

I found that my electric Burco was useless in winter boiling heads outside as it lost so much heat through the sides. I ended up adding hot water tank lagging and then covering that in Speedtape. Works now but is better in the Summer months!

I bought a secondhand camping stove £10 and a massive pot from a sell everything hardware store. Does the job for Fallow etc

Much depends on which species you’re likely to be dealing with, and how many you’re likely to be cleaning at the same time.
A thirty litre boiler holds rather more roe heads than a 20litre one, and is also more practical for boiling trophies of the larger species.

That being said, large red deer trophies are in a different league to deal with.

Good advice. I am mainly boiling out muntjac and roe heads, but the odd fallow is there. I guess I need a better outdoor gas burner. The camping version I have is not man enough to boil a pan big enough for deer heads.

I bought a 10 litre swan water heater (birco equivalent) from FB market place and have boiled
out munti, roe, cwd, fallow and sika skulls and has been brilliant. Will admit tried to do a lowland red stag and was no where near big enough.
