What would you do?

So a few months back I sent off a CWD buck to be mounted.
reference pictures on the website are good, as has been the experience of at least one friend who sent a roe buck to the same place a few years back.
now, the buck I sent was in perfect condition, she (the taxidermist) even commented on how nice the cape was.
so forgive my disappointment when what turns up today in the post has a hole below one eye, and a cut of fur missing, the hole is probably about 1cm across and although “covered” by surrounding fur, it’s has left a clearly visible scar which shouldn’t be there.
What course of action would folk suggest? Distant selling rules are all well and good, but it hardly accounts for a trophy animal like this, I have paid as you would expect for this type of purchase, a deposit at the start and then the remaining balance before it got released to me, and this area wasn’t clearly photographed when I asked to see it prior to finalising the transaction., I have photos of the buck before and now after and the difference is clear.

Firstly: Lovely Buck.

Secondly: If you cannot live with it, then revert to the taxidermist with the explanation above and invite her to comment/revisit.

Should all be doable.

Well, ok, they have come back to me and offered a 50% refund. Can’t say I’m overjoyed with the overall outcome but it’s better than a poke in the eye I guess.

Are you posting the name or location of the taxidermist ?
Would be a shame for someone else to get similar results. I personally think the treatment of the nose and nostrils is poor and unnatural

Would it be feasible financially to take it to a better taxidermist, and pay them the 50% refund to fix it up? The colour of the nostrils looks very unnatural.

I know nothing about taxidermy at all and personally have no interest in trophies. But to my eyes, other than the nose/nostrils and the scar it seems to look pretty good. But then, I wouldn’t know a good one from a bad one really.

don't name and shame the craftsman / woman who for what i see has done a good job, and a lot of hard work has gone into it, they have give you a refund, and are now properly out of pocket, money/time wise.

i cant speak for everyone, but i very much doubt 99.99% people that see it, will even notice anything wrong? i didn't.

most people that don't shoot will say it looks discussing anyway, ''but screw them''

cracking buck by the way

I absolutely do not intend to publicly flog them, no need, they have provided a satisfactory refund that we have agreed on. Ok so I’m still miffed but I can live with it and move on.

Are the tusks the right way around?
