What's this cartridge?

It would be interesting to see some measurements from the cartridge in the original post. Actual measured diameter of the bullet. Our side neck measurement of the cartridge.

To my eyeball the cartridge looks like a Standard .303 Brit cartridge on the outside. The bullet on the other hand is smaller than the inside of the case neck. Looking at pictures tells one story. Taking measurements is quite another.

There is one thing that does bother me about the cartridge in the OP and that is the bullet appears to be a lead bullet. The work to develop the .303 was done with jacketed bullet.

My sole reference source on the development of the .303 comes from Winfer's book. Being in the US, limits my source of refence material on British cartridges. If any one has any additional reference they can point me to on the subject I would appreciate it.

I realise that the OP is five years old and reading it interested me sufficiently to retrieve some old .303 rounds from the cabinet that l think maybe are the same as in the original post but perhaps in better condition .

Most are Kynoch Mk 11 with Nickel covered projectile, cordite propellant.

Yes many of us have heard of it I’m sure.
The round in question just doesn’t look like 8x56r though. The shoulder angle is much more like a .303 than an 8x56r

Well I am disappointed. I copied the first picture to my photo editor and enlarged it only to learn this is somebody's cast bullet reload in a case with a split neck. The split gives the appearance of a larger case neck than the bullet

I was so excited. Now, only embarrassed.
