When your phone's photo just doesn't cut it...

Out walking two of my three (the pup has been spayed this week and so is on 'light duties') this morning at about 0500 hours.

As I turned up a private road, the full moon was hanging in the sky at the far end of the road. Illuminating the branches of the trees, it just looked beautiful.

So beautiful, then when I got home and kennelled the two hounds, I dashed in, grabbed my phone and walked back to where I hoped the moon would still be shinning.

It still looked beautiful. and I snapped away hoping for the best.

The results were...disappointing. This does not do it justice but I share it because I bloody well tried...

Walking back home, I notice the drainage ditches (which have been in full flood), have a goodly collection of detritus.

I return home again, grab a litter picker and a bag and go back out.

It only take me ten minutes, and my 'manor' will look slightly nicer for my neighbours when they wake.

So there we have it.

Not even had a cup of coffee yet and I have seen something beautiful and something ugly. The Yin Yang of life I suppose.

I am then joined by the pup, wearing her 'post op' pyjamas. She was a wee bit sleepy for the first 24 hours, but is already back at it. She is firecracker.

Any hoo.

I have to load the truck up this morning.

I am due in the West Country by noon tomorrow, for a crack at the Reds.

If I am to be on time (@bowji john), then I will need to set off in about eleven minutes...that or I will have to dig this out of the shed...

"You can't drive the truck down the motorway with it all covered in mud!"

Too tired to argue the toss, I make a 'fuss' of getting everything packed for the trip.

Maybe, just maybe, if I make myself scarce for long enough...🤔

The size of the pixels (not the number of pixels) in a typical phone camera is about 1.1 microns whereas the pixel size in a typical consumer DSLR is around 5 to 6 microns. So the amount of light that falls on each pixel is much higher in a conventional camera making for a clearer pic in low light conditions. Phone cameras use software to try to compensate for low light situations but there are limits, as you have discovered.

I did realise I was being a tad optimistic.

However, by the time I could have set up my camera, the moon would have long been replaced by the sun...

Hence why I still use a 24mp camera for low light work rather than the 48mp one.

Where you going?

Who you shooting with?

Whoever it is has my deepest sympathy, that ‘62 character is a fully functioning multi discipline disaster area just waiting for an opportunity to prove it again.
Like most disasters it’s amusing once you’re not personally caught up in it.
I suspect his lovely Mrs is in line for canonisation, a home for the bewildered, or both simultaneously.

I suspect our honourable friend is highly competent

He has, though, perfected the art of taking the mick out of himself
👍👍

Up well before dawn yesterday (Sunday) for the Fallow, Ready at the high seat before 7am still quite dark, when settled in the seat and now beginning to get light I had on my right the full moon at a bit lower than tree height as bright as could be and to my left the red rays of dawn beginning to show. No chance of capturing that on my camera? but to get up at 04.15 and drive for an hour to meet up after 06.15, and witness that phenomenon has got to make it all' worth while.

BC.

While your suspicions are not without merit theres a solid body of evidence to the contrary.
He’s also prone to wilfulness on an epic scale, just 2 examples, his attempt to make .310 Cadet ammunition from 32/20 brass and the ongoing saga of the completely unnecessary process of measuring the bore of his Moisin Nagant.
In both cases he persists with a particular course of action despite being repeatedly advised otherwise by people who seem to have his interests at heart and some expertise in the field.
Why is there no tongue-in-cheek emoji?
