Which 17hmr?

I too have a T3X and a CZ 452 .22lr.
I’ve got the TX1 HMR and it’s as you expect in relation to the T3X it’s pretty much identical BUT it feeds awful, you can have 3 rabbits in view, shoot one, then the next round doesn’t find the chamber and you have to drop the mag to sort it, far from ideal if a quick follow up was needed on a random fox.
I’ve messed with it and think it’s the mag, just haven’t got round to buying another.
If I was buying a new one from and RFD I’d ask to see a full mag cycled before buying.

I have never had this issue PP, with either of my TX1 HMR Rifles.

I really rate the TX1, but can only compare it to a CZ 452 American.

I’ve got a Annie, very accurate but only a 4 shot mag. Can’t find a after market one. ive also got a issc straight pull. That’s accurate but not to Annie standard. It’s set up for my xsight 4k pro and the Annie with a day scope. Ive been thinking of selling both and got it down to 3. The new cz 457, tikka t1x or the ruger American rim fire.
you need to hold each one you fancy then choose what fits you. All rifles have good and bad points. Annie, small mag. T bolt trigger, etc.

Hi all,

Just after opinions on which .17hmr people think is best for the money. I’ve (sort of) got the list down to either a CZ 452/455 or the tikka TX1…

I know of course it’s best to get hands on with both, but just wanted users opinions or any advice on things to be aware of with either. It would also be good to hear from anyone who’s had both and whether the tikka is worth the extra money.

I have a CZ in .22 which is great and has been solid for years, lso have a Tikka T3 which is great to handle.

Any advice is welcome, as well as other rifle suggestions if people think there is a better option out there!

Thanks in advance…
I bought a CZ 452 years ago and it’s been faultless. The only thing I would compare with the 455 is the trigger,(I’ve no experience here). I’d a gunsmith fit an (at the time) “eric brooks” trigger kit and it made a world of difference but a really great little rifle

A shout for a Sako Quad. Mine is very accurate if I do my bit and allow for any wind (as with all 17HMRs)- I particularly like the double lock up for the bolt but please ignore the "theoretical" take down facility - you have to remove the scope to change barrels/calibres.

I have the Lithgow LA101 and would have another at the drop of a hat! Great accuracy, great sako style extractor, 3 lug rear locking bolt and ceracoted from the factory. 👌🏼

Given your choices I vote CZ all day. I however own a Savage 17hmr. All other choices were a couple hundred bucks higher so my inner cheap ass took over, it shoots way better than it looks.

As has already been said, Anschutz would be the way to go. If you can find one the best is the 17/17 (the 17 series is their top of the range job).
Unfortunately Anschutz stopped exporting the 17/17 here a few years back. I've had one of these for years and it really is an excellent rifle.

Don't discount the Weihrauch 60 or 66 (especially Jadgmatch) sublime triggers and accuracy - only real downside of HW and Anschutz is the 4 round magazine.
it does produce a slow down, i put 3 rounds in x 2 mags works fine no pressure on the mag 6 rounds to go and reload the empty whilst a full mag in situ. Perfic
getting a second mag does or can cause a headache
in all honesty its no problem shooting with one mag

No difference in accuracy with my friends jadgmatch weihrauch , and my cz 455, when shooting side by side at targets, will not be getting ridd off, the 22 rf, or the hmr both do the job well.

I also have a Winerack HW60 and it's bloody beautiful. Bought a Tikka .22 and that's not too bad. I'm only in Surrey if you want to have a go of the Weihrach.

This is simple I have owned and fired a few HMRs and by far my favourite is the CZ 455 Thumbhole laminate stock. Yes it’s a wee. It heavier than the Tikka but it’s still light, compact and accurate. Stick a scirocco mod on it cheap as cheap and you’ve got a short accurate HMR and Thumbhole stock is the game changer. I’ve is fit rid of the sidewinder and mounted it with Hawke Frontier 4A dot this little set up is not going anywhere.E6E29DDA-180D-452A-8AAC-41B0B4D9AACF.webp9D8D945F-EADC-4D39-BD1C-B91E72EAFA3B.webp4A1310E8-0894-4D68-B1AC-191DD85E4C8A.webp

Anschutz seems to be getting a lot of votes… I understand people’s suggestions for the hornets but I currently don’t reload and HMR ammo seems to be cheaper and easier to find…
Hornet is very , very easy to load you do not need a press infact I recommend you don't use one other than a little about press but a small mallet will do on the kitchen table . Using LE Wilson hand dies

I prefer the Lee loader, seems much simpler than the Wilson video. Piece of cake to load, taking my time 30 an hour.

It's no place near as accurate as Wilson and works tge brass harder . Not fussed about saving minutes but I have found the consentric round in the hornet is the most accurate 1/4 moa at 200 yards is how they shoot , neck tension changes with different cases but I can account for that with different bushes
Whatever works for you though
