I'm looking at getting a .22-250 for my dedicated night setup for foxing. Anyone recommend a particular rifle? I have a .223 tikka t3x but I fancy something different if I can. Any recommendations and advice would be appreciated.

I think a rifle is a matter of personal taste - and budget. I would advocate however looking at a fast twist version as it gives far more flexibility in the heavier rounds with better BC now available. It's not all about speed (just most of it!). Do not be tempted to go for a short barrel either, you just won't get the most out of the calibre. If you want a 'truck gun' - (Lord how I hate that phrase) with a short barrel, get a calibre that suits the barrel length you want.

What’s your budget, what rifle takes your fancy. Sako 90 would be a good shout if you want a more refined tikka. It won’t shoot any better

I would say pushing about £1200 ISH. I was looking at Bergara at weekend and they seemed quite good. I noticed that there is a stoke version that retails quite cheap and with me being a short fella it appeals to me but I can't seem to find much info and reviews on a .22-250 version.

I would be thinking away from the traditional stalking rifles - IF it was a "Dedicated" Night set up, even though i generally go traditional , i would be looking short and well moderated with Picatinny rails etc

I would stick with a tikka, some bergarras shoot well, they do seem to need some barrel break in. Tikkas in my experience shoot straight out of the box. Have a look @BE Precision he may be able to build you something for not much more cash.

I’ve had a Tikka T3 the last 7 years. Bought second hand. It shoots.

So would use recommend avoiding the Bergara stoke with it's 20" barrell?

In my experience rounds around 55g are enough in my 223 to deal with foxes. Stuff like nosler varmageddon, hornady vmax etc are devastating. Not sure you need to go to heavy rounds and worry about barrell twist etc.

Get another T3X, great rifles, you'll be familiar with the feel.
Swappable stocks, scope rings, slings, bipods even bolt handles.

As long as you apply for a moderator, you won't need to buy another one as the one from your 223 will fit.

I'd stick with Tikka, main reason being you know the layout and muscle memory is important for shooting, especially in the dark

Got to agree, I had a Howa 1500 with a heavy barrel. Shot well but just too heavy to be lugging around all night.
Tikka T3 in a PSE stock and an F&D moderator which so far hasn’t gone west.

Walking or truck ? I have a Sako75 that's predominantly used off the truck It weighs just over 14lb. My other is a Tikka loads lighter that I use as a walk about.
Heavy bullets in my opinion negates the need to go 22.250 if your using heavy bullets.

It would be for truck/walking across some hilly terrain. The stoke caught my attention with it being small, light and fairly cheap. It's just going to be used as a tool so want something I can abuse and for it to keep shooting straight
