Which method would you use?

Good for you, Norfolk is a complete shower of shite, thats why i jacked it in!

Too many nights of being called out to RTA’s with the caller not staying with the animal, the police getting there eventually and all that for not even a well done!

Too much like hard work, i asked for my name to be removed from the call out lists almost 2 years ago and i am still getting called now, my answer is sorry I’m retired.
Yes it sounds like it’s not very organised!

We have to have a police unit at every incident so no problems with not finding. Also the use of what 3 Words really helps.

Some are in the middle of the night but more during the day.

I think it takes the right sort of person to do this work!

What ever I had in the car as unless iam about or have been hunting! I can not have a knife in the car or any type of gun?
So the car as its already damaged or the jack !

Did for over 10 years, all nights and hardly never during the day.

Getting too old for that crap now, bed is far too comfortable these days.

We did a lot of testing on fallow, roe and muntjac heads before using it for real,
The manufacturers made us up a load that worked on all without any exiting.
The photo is using a magnum load on a fallow pricket at 1 inch range
The same load was completely inert at 5 meters so very useful in urban setting or risk of ricochet.

Interesting.

Will they be commercially available, or special order only?

Just stick it with a knife job done it’s not like a muntjac has a huge body bugger the bystanders needs must to put it out of its suffering.

The pussifcation of the west is complete. a sad and bitter pill. Now grown men are frit of a small wrecked Bambi jammed in a car bonnet with its back to you if armed only with knife .

The police officer that was at the incident didn't won't me to dispatch it with a gun as she thought a may damage the car, she also thought I was going to pull it out first!
Under normal circumstances I would have used 12g safe shot as there's no exit with that stuff( for the that know safe shot is very similar to the stuff issued by Natural England ) but I had run out and am waiting for a delivery.

As many of you have said the next option was the 410 with 2 inch cartridges which is how I did it, it was made a bit more difficult as I couldn't see the top of the head before the shot was taken, so one in the neck and followed up with one in the head once it had dropped down, the shot did not exit the head and no more damage to the car.

Using a knife is an option but with people watching it doesn't look good if they don't understand, the noise that injured deer make can be a bit disturbing to people that don't know!

anyway it all went well this time

Tony
Hi Tony, do you know what these are loaded with and can they be bought in .410? The supplier of my 45/410 was going to get me some really good cartridges that you fill with water. Unfortunately they haven’t materialised !!!😏

Yes indeed, you probably need more sleep at your age 😂
Yep certainly do, did a 22 hour day yesterday!

Not many people know there is 24 hours in a day let alone do a 22 hour shift!

Volunteering can go and do one i rather earn the coin!

No one is going to thank you for it on the end!

You’ll be forgotten just like all those before you.

I imagine that the safe shot cartridges are the same as the ones issued for dispatching trapped badgers during the cull. if so, these are filled with what appears to be a tin powder with no "lumps" in it at all. They kill at very close range but don't damage the trap.

Captive bolt if had one to hand, else knife to the atlas joint... Then worry about the cost of damage! Hit a Roe a few months back in the pitch black on a dual carridgeway, had to dispatch it then go looking for the rest of my bumper!

That was my first thought, a knife through the Atlas joint to sever the spinal chord.

.22 lr pistol or if I could get around the front of the animal knife through the throat its pretty quick and I'm not a fan of atlas joint dispatch tries it a couple of times out of curiosity and wasn't very impressed.

Fare enough Lee

I don't do it for thanks or anything else just happy to give something back to the sport I love.

You probably wouldn't have the right temperament or attitude to do the job in this day and age of political correctness anyway.

so enjoy your beauty sleep.

Your quite correct Tony, too much bollocks, too much politics, don’t have time for it and don’t care for it!

If more people spoke in black and white and less bolloks grey, the whole shooting community in the UK would be in a far better position than it is now.
