Which new pickup ????

Looking at getting a new pickup and currantly thinking the new navara is the one to go for as heard a lot of poor reviews on the ford ranger and not keen on the look of the new hilux what are you guys using and recommending?

Having run a new Navara for 2 years, I'd avoid. I can't wait to get rid of mind. Built of eggshells, loads of niggling issues (crap aircon / heater, slowest electric windows in the world, no centre diff so limited 4wd application, very uncomfortable seats, main beam headlights don't shine far enough out from the vehicle i.e. they're almost semi-dipped). Combine all this with the fact the Nissan dealers and Nissan UK have provided terrible customer care and I'll never ever buy another Nissan. About to replace with an L200 or more likely Hilux. It was never the plan to replace after only 2 years, but I've had enough!

ps. Previous vehicle was a Defender, so expectations weren't set very high!! :p

I've had a Hilux since 2014. Not the most comfortable waggon, but it does everything I need - and will quite probably do a lot more than I need. I stalk, shoot, pick up and fish. It's ability to access other areas that the likes of Navara can't is impressive. It hasn't got any rust yet either, unlike comparably aged Nissans Nev's. I would also have a good look at VW's Amorak if I were you. I have a friend who has a fleet of them, accessing towns (yes towns) to remote Scottish highlands. Dragging vast amounts of antennas / steelwork etc to strap on mobile 'phone towers. He's mega impressed with them, and I understand they are a lot more comfortable than a Hilux (he's had one). That all said and done, I like the idea of a Range Rover - but quite frankly I'm never going to be able to afford one and they are rather too ostentatious for me... horse's for courses ...

I used to be a big fan of Nissan Navaras, I'm on my third one from new now. If properly made they are very good value for money but there have been serious q.c. issues particularly surrounding underbody/chassis sealing on some. They have done a recall & checked, those that were ok were nevertheless given further sealing f.o.c. to the main chassis parts although other underbody rusting has been ignored. My worst experience was the plate retaining the spare wheel rusted through resulting in the wheel dropping off whilst I was doing around 40mph-fortunately no-one got hurt as a result. I reported this to Nissan customer services, their response "its just wear & tear, it happens all the time"! So the Navara is best avoided for now until they sort out their q.c. and attitude issues.

Yep, capable off-road and on, and comfortable - just like driving a Golf on steroids.

Whats peoples verdict on the new Navaras the Tekna models look great for the price with BASC discount and engine/economy power ?

OOPS post edited didn't read the above posts.... Navara a no go then !!!

I don’t own one, I have an old Ranger for my shooting/Dogs/Deer etc, but has anyone any views on the new Ssangyong Musso. 7 year/150,000 mile warranty.

I have sat in one and was extremely impressed with the finish and levels of kit..........Might be worth a look.

Ive got the new Hilux had it 2 years now from new and I can't wait to get rid of it, It's great off road and very capable but I've had 2 new rear bumpers due to parking sensors, constant error messages for front facing anti collision camera, new add blue tank, 2 sets of glow plugs which took the garage 1 week to sort out, front parking sensors constantly beep even when nothing there and interior door handles coming away from the door when you close them, I bought the Invincible X which was top of the range and thinking it would be years before they changed the shape again and they've already changed it 2 years in
Theres a new L200 coming out this year, I'll have a look and see what that's like.

I ordered a new Navara last week after having done a lot of homework and driven everything. There is a new facelift coming out in late 2019 and you can get 20% plus off a new one at the moment. I bought the Offroad AT32 which has additional ground clearance and a rear diff lock as standard and got £8k off. Still comes with a 5 year/100k mile warranty.

I’ve had a new 2011 hilux invincible 3.0 manual very last on the old shape did 130K virtually trouble free miles other than an alternator at about 128K

Bought a new 2014 hilux invincible 3.0 manual exact same spec and colour as the 2011 but the facelift version only managed 46K miles in it as it was a absolute heap of **** 2 new engines, turbos, DPF
In the end Toyota uk bought it back of me

Tried a new shape Toyota invincible x and it just felt gutless and tinny, even the demonstrator had problems !

I genuinely don’t know where the Toyota brand got the “it’s the best / most reliable pickup you can buy “

In the end I bought a 66 Reg ranger Wildtrak 3.2 auto 77K miles on and only a headlamp bulb and a few plastic clips for mud flaps, granted fuel economy is about 23 knocking about but oh well

It’s far more comfortable and refined than the hilux no keyless eigher which I prefer

Maybe I got a good one who knows but I’d give another one a go

Get yourself an Isuzu Henry I thought I was stuck last night but straight out even with all terrains it pulled through deep ruts no way would my old Navarra have got through!

80,000 miles in my Tekna Navara no problems.Only problem I’ve had was getting an anti collision sensor after an accident when I went into the back of another driver who slammed on because he thought he seen a porkpie in the road.Other than that it’s powerful pulling over 3 tons no problem.Been stuck once when I wrapped a fence around the back axle no fault of the truck though.I’ve had no quality issues and would get another. All vehicles suffer at some time with a problem it’s how the dealer handles them that can be the issue. Before I got the Navara I had an Isuzu done over 200,000 miles in it lovely truck only reason I never got another was they put a smaller engine in it.With Mercedes and Renault using the Nissan base it can’t be that bad.

Feel the same about mine, had it from new over 2 years and it’s an absolute pile of sh*te compared to my last 3L auto hilux. Had it back several times. Constantly has warning lights flashing on the dash, cracked windscreen, fuel economy pathetic. I’ll not be going back to Toyota again that’s for sure.

To be honest, I don't think there's anything out there in the UK pick up market that stands out at the minute. They all seem to have a few issues and plenty of reliability issues reported for all of them. Maybe the VW the best in that regard, but too pricey and too heavy on fuel (in permanent 4wd V6 form) for the mileage I do.

I do know that I can't live with my newer shape Navara though - too many design issues. Reliability-wise, there's been nowt wrong with it but I can't live with:
- Heater / aircon - either fridge or greenhouse - widely reported across forums that the AC is terrible.
- Electric windows - again, common issue. They're just so slow! Sounds such a trivial thing, but really is a pia!
- 4wd system - no centre diff so you can't drive it on anything grippy (even at slow speeds). Wind-up when doing 3 point turns on forest / gravel tracks is horrendous and it almost bounces on the spot!
- Seats - both me and the missus find them unbearably uncomfortable, to the point she hates us taking it on long journeys. I have a small hand-towel in the car I use rolled up behind my back to get comfortable!
- Headlights - mainbeam is too "dipped" and you can't see far enough ahead on country roads.
- Build quality overall is very poor. Classic example is the glovebox - designed to "pop out" to access the fusebox. Except it snaps when you try to remove it :-| Widely reported corrosion on the side steps as well - mine happened after about 6 months.
