Whirly and flapper for corvids? Experiences please

I've done a decent amount of crow shooting over the years and rarely bother with either a flapper or whirly as I find them pretty ineffective.

Thoughts from fellow shooters of corvids on effectiveness and what you guys find please :) 👍

Rotary with a speed controller, 6-10 rpm was the advice from Rolland who owned Pinewood at the time, so my friend made one up and it was deadly with 2 rooks on the cradles.

Jackdaws and other corvids can be mesmerised, once shot 77 of the former in an hour and a half.
Interesting indeed .... I'll give them a try on Sat and see ...I shoot this farm once a month and I need to try something new as after a few shots they head to the other side of the yard..if I move they then head back to where I was away from the noise :)

I will have to tailor my approach depending on which side of the border I am ... cant get any rooks in Wales :)

the soft south wins again...
Tim...I dont want this to sound patronising in any way...but you are aware that England contains sections such as the North, Midlands, SW, South and the crap flat bit in the East 😅 😅 However I do agree that sense prevails in England more then Wales when it comes to shooting pest species.

🥰💋

You are forgiven how you sound as I have the universal translator app, but the swear filter seems to not understand Welsh which could be handy

Conditions have to be right for success in decoying any bird, as well as having access to or under a flight line they are using with an intention.
Wind and weather also play their part.

Random decoying is seldom a great success, the luck my not always be with the Gun.

You are aware of the longevity of corvids as being up to thirty years? They are capable of learning over time too.

No offence intended but I think you’d benefit from having several ambush spots in the district, however I recognise that may not be in your gift.

Appreciate your comments and no offence taken at all. Ive been shooting corvids for 15+ years so was interested in the specific point ref flappers or whirly as I dont generally bother and have had reasonable sessions over the 100 mark (150 is the joint top day at the mo) :)👍

I've never used either , they either want to be there or they dont .
I find with jackdaws calling them is deadly , that's how I build a bag 👍

Hello, Excellent post, Well done, As it happens i am testing some new Decoys ( Jackdaw ) as i could not find any to buy, These are 3 D Printed whole body type so only able to use pegs, They are very life like and should do well when i can get out and try on the Farm
