Whirly and flapper for corvids? Experiences please

I've done a decent amount of crow shooting over the years and rarely bother with either a flapper or whirly as I find them pretty ineffective.

Thoughts from fellow shooters of corvids on effectiveness and what you guys find please :) 👍
Yeah bouncers work well for me, also the Sillosocks seem to bring them in from a distance, i think maybe their size helps

Sillosocks are a revelation, light to carry and stand out better than shells.
I managed to get 24 and think they are great...though strangely I have had days where its gone slow and removing them and leaving just dead birds out has resulted in things picking up. I think the key theme here is the fact that there is no "one size fits all".

Also its great that we dont need to worry if there head is up or down or comment on head shots or texas heart shots 😅

Nothing beats dead birds , I've never had to bring in the socks though.

Its a funny old game with crows at times...Last weekend I was picking up dead crows with others landing in the pattern 20 yards away 😅 Thats why I love it (even though it makes me miserable)👍

Too hot , went yesterday to look at barley stubble and nothing moving...same today.
Fair point. I'm going for an early session on the crows tomorrow then see whats about later in the afternoon...will definitely be sat in the shade and taking a load of frozen drinks with me .

25C again tomorrow and Sunday. Meant to rain on Monday hopefully.
Just checked the forecast here... 31°C tomorrow and 29 on Sunday...maybe a little bit of rain next week...I might reconsider how long i stop out tomorrow as no fun getting baked....Will bring the wheat along though so hopefully may see some stubble soon...good for foxing if nothing else 👍

So a little bit of an update after the weekend.

I must stress that I do corvid control purely for conservation and hate every second of it 😅

Sat - farm 1 managed 51 between 5.30 and 10.00
Sat - farm 2 - slow start so deployed the whirly and managed 53 between 11.30-16.00
Sunday - 5.15-11.00 including using the whirly and managed 76

I set the whirly up when the initial "rush" was done. Whilst I appreciate I cant say if the birds would have come in without the whirly it certainly appeared to draw their interest despite it also clearly scaring a few away. I had some jackdaws circling over the top and the rooks seemed to like it. The carrions were not as impressed but came close enough not to care for long.

I might try it a little more often as its not exactly a pain to set up (as long as I can drive to where Im shooting).

I've often used a flapper for corvids. Sometimes they respond well to it, other times they don't. Luck of the draw sometimes I think.

Totally agree though I now take the whirly with me on corvid trips as it has actually worked really well (on jackdaws mainly), Better to have it and not want it then to want it and not have it :) 👍
