Who else uses Grains as a measure of weight?

In shooting, ammunition, bullets etc we still use Grains as unit of measurement. Admittedly many elsewhere in the world us the metric system, and in shotgun cartridges we use grams for weight of shot.

Is there any other industry, trade or profession that use Grains as the unit of measurement.

There are 7000 grains in 1 pound, but is that a US or UK pound?

Graded grains make fine powder flower.

I don't use grains......I use an old 3-figure mechanical lab. balance that was designed for rapid repeat weighing 160grams max, 0.001gram divisions (0.015 grain)

I have always used grains (gr) to measure bullet weight, black powder, and non-black powder charges.

In both British Imperial units and United States customary units, there are precisely 7,000 grains per avoirdupois pound.

Avoirdupois is a measurement system of weights that uses pounds and ounces as units. It was first commonly used in the 13th century AD and was updated in 1959. In 1959, by international agreement, the definitions of the pound and ounce became standardised in countries which use the pound as a unit of mass

Are there metric beam scales? I find thous and grains a real faff when used to millimetres and milligrams for work
Yet I cook in lb/oz!

All the more reason to buy an AutoTrickler and scale, and be able to change to Metric should you desire…

Most reloading kit sold in UK is American and hence grains. There is plenty of reloading done on the continent and they work in grams. They have a yellow coloured brand of kit which is all metric. Have a look at Frankonia.

But you should be able to find metric beam scales that will used in scientific purposes, but they wont be branded as reloading kit. Frankly you are wanting to measure a few grams very accurately.

Archery, arrow heads are grains, arrow shafts, particularly the fancy carbon ones are Grains Per Inch (GPI)
